Newcastle United vs. Aston Villa: 12/08/23 @ 17:30 (Sky Sports)

Anderson reminds me of Milner. I don't think it's possible to see where Gordon will end up in 10 years time but I don't see him changing too much in the near future (other than hopefully improving with age). He always looks better running towards goal.
-
Moussa Diaby is an attacking right forward/midfielder. He's potentially excellent but that's all he is. Gordon can play like 5-6 different positions.
-
Referees shouldn't be abused but I don't know why they need to be treat like some kind of deity. If he makes a poor call and a player reacts by punching the ground or something I don't think the game is being damaged. Certain players (like Fernandes and beatiful Joelinton) take the piss a bit and probably need singling out.

I cannot see anything wrong with what Varane has said tbh. The new rules look dreadful.

Their results for over half a season were CL form weren't they? They've been very good in the transfer market too. We'll beat anyone at SJP (other than Man City) when on it, but Villa do look very strong like. There's very little between the two squads or managers from what we've seen imo. -

*brummie klaxon* apparently Mings has been pretty faultless and the whole "just press him and we'll win" tactic doesn't work anymore, which is a shame. -

Which site is this, stottie? -
Aye but your point was that people need to stop suggesting Trippier for LB and your example was Howe shifting our best (but most versatile) striker out to the wing in order to accomdate Wilson? It just shows that Howe might be flexible in accomodating our best players in the starting XI.
-
Trippier's at an age where he can fall off a cliff part way through the season tbf. He's our oldest starting player.
-
Eh? Howe played Isak LW until the last game, we beat Brighton 4-1 with him there in one of our best performances of the season?

Miggy's drought is massively overplayed in anycase. He went 5 games without a goal in the league, scored 2 in 4 (one from the bench), then only played 174 minutes across the next 5 games, started the final 4 where he got an assist. It's a poor run but he could realistically have scored a couple more if he was starting during that latter period, which still puts him on course for 8-10 goals a season.

I mean he only battered the shit out of his lass tbf. -
The press is a better creator than any number 10 etc etc I pray for Chiesa but it's hard to judge the actual impact of Almiron and Murphy given we rely a lot on counter-pressing. Eddie obviously rates the pair of them and will be well aware of their technical limitations.

Tbf a lot of the popular Youtube tactic chanels are decent (until they branch out and start doing podcasts 'n that). Nobody is going to watch 10 minute videos about absolute nonsense so it's probably pretty hard to be completely shit and compete with the likes of 4-4-2, JLA and Tifo etc. The problem with that Olsen gimp isn't that he has a lack of knowlege (he's probably pretty good at analysing a game) it's that he and people like him buzz over noticing things they've been trained in (whether professionally or through their own work) and need need to inform everyone that they've spotted it. They then get popular through oeople laughing at them - if he's self aware enough he'll just be playing along.

I think it's a combination of Emery being likeable, and therefore people don't mind giving Villa praise, and PTSD from THAT game. Top 4 seems a massive ask for any of us, Villa, and Brighton but we'll have a better picture a few games in. We started fairly poorly last season but it was obvious our play had evolved so much that I was never really worried (didn't expect top 4 like), hopefully it's the same this year, regardless of results, and the work in pre-season really shows. Even if we don't buy anyone else we can expect improvemements across pretty much every area from last season. -
He quite clearly has (had) some connection in the club, the odds of him just guessing some of the things are too high.
-
It's an interesring point like, we see first hand with our own players how our style of play (and Eddie's coaching) can make a player look much better. Just in our case it seems to have the opposite effect on a player's value - the previous mismanagement sort of being accepted as their true level. If Willock was a Brighton player he would be getting far greater praise than he does here for example. Mac Allister did well at the World Cup, but in general there could be an element of players just looking great in Brighton's system and that not translating as well elsewhere, which makes buying from them a bit of a rippoff.
