Leaving KK out of the equation for now, I personally don’t see Howe above SBR yet. Both took over struggling teams but SBR took us to 3rd/4th/5th positions in the league, through a Champions League group, semi final of UEFA cup. Played great football during this time too with some of the most memorable nights in my time supporting us. Also, like Keegan, this was more than a job for him, he totally loved the club to his core. Eddie given time will hopefully eclipse all this but if he left us tomorrow I don’t think he’d have done enough.

Agree, people forget how good he was in that season. No defender has reached such heights in the premier league era for us IMO. Depends on what you’re looking for. Some players were absolutely amazing for us but only for maybe a season or two. Others, have perhaps not been as good but get chosen for their longevity.

Howe has not done enough to be above Keegan or Sir Bobby IMO. Sir Bobby took a team that was rock bottom and took us into the top 4/5 for three seasons running, made it out of the champs league group stage. Keegan took us on a magical ride from almost falling out of the championship to almost winning the league (those days will never be rivalled, even if we win a cup for me - I was the right age to be completely obsessed with football at that time).

Not sure these are Howe's mistakes though, he can only use what he has play with. In 2022/23 he performed incredibly well getting Trippier to be so influential and Almiron scoring goals, but it was always goign to be a struggle to keep those levels so high. Lack of depth in the keeper position, slowness of our centre halves, Wilson AWOL etc. can't be laid just at Howe's feet. We're not able to spend because of PSR and there is a whole recruitment infrastructure at the club. Given our resources, a par season is 7th or 8th, some fans just don't want to hear that. I appreciate we're on a bad run but we'd be crazy to let Howe go unless there's a real upgrade available, which I struggle to see at the moment.

Not sure if we’d get it, but price would need to be well in excess of £100m to make a significant difference to boosting the team long term. We nearly paid £60m+ for a decent centre half in the summer, for example. By the time you factor in a replacement striker, £100m is not leaving much over.

Also, for those in fan representative groups, if a new stadium is announced, can we request that a focus on atmosphere is included as early as possible into new plans. Singing areas (all standing) behind at least one of the goals should be a priority.

I do think we need a new stadium if we are to compete with the current ‘big six’. However, watching SJP being torn down will be devastating. Just hope the new stadium is at Castle Leazes and is so good that we’ll have no regrets.

I honestly forgot how bad those puma/wonga shirts were Castore’s last two were incredible in comparison.

Always say it was one of the best atmospheres I've experienced in SJP. It was a crazy atmosphere and rare to leave a game we've lost thinking that was great to be part of.

Plus if you’re going down that route, just get the long sleeved 95/96 version. Best shirt ever.
