The lad is still young, he's got bags of pace, has an eye for goal and would be a decent signing IMO. Sure there's a risk but not as much as signing a foreign player like we always do.

We know we lack quality but I just don't see enough characters who are willing to fight to get us out of it too. Most probably know they'll move on if we go down. Furthermore McClaren doesn't seem to have what it takes to fire up what we have for a relegation scrap.

I really can't see how we can stay up unless we sign some real, genuine quality this month. At the absolute minimum we need a CB to come in and stabilise that back four in central defence and a striker to put away chances. I just don't have any faith in Charnley and Carr bringing in these proper signings so for that reason I'm resigned to believe we're almost down. I'd put us at 8 1/2 - 9 currently

Spot on. I've been bored shitless for years. Whole thing is a completely pointless exercise and I'm glad I effectively opted out of going to matches a few seasons ago.

Players like Thauvin would surely do better coming into a side with a mix of foreign and British players where there was essentially a strong core/spine. Our problem is we have a collection of individuals combined with bang average managers and so players generally under perform.

Unsurprisingly took a punt on on a raw, unproven striker from the continent and while he has some qualities he's not scoring anywhere close to the goals that we need to keep us in the league. As others have said we shouldn't be relying on him for a goal haulage.

Good spirit in the side currently which is nice to see but there's just simply too many holes in the side all over the pitch. We miss too many clear chances lacking a proper finishing striker, our centre midfield pairing is weak as piss and Coloccini gets dominated too easily. I thought we'd done enough to earn a point there and to concede like that was a killer blow. Ashley thinks in £££££££s and if he wants to avoid a relegation battle then he's going to have to get the chequebook out and spend properly. We might be showing some team spirit but as Trevor Francis said there just aren't enough good players there. No way De Jong should be starting ahead of Perez. You need to win games from the start with your best players not bringing them on to try and win it. That needs to fucking change from the next match. De Jong just doesn't offer enough whereas Perez can score create and run all day. De Jong still looks off the pace for me.

Need to add something in defence and midfield at the very least.

Thing is I've seen him celebrate a couple of times like he genuinely enjoys it. So why all the scrimping on the squad and rest if the nonsense? He could create a genuinely decent side without spending fortunes and still make money.
