Demba often drops back to help/replace Cabaye. He did it loads against West Ham. -

Heroic display. Got fully stuck in on the referee at one point like he did when Tiote went off against the mackems.

Yohan Cabaye (now sporting coordinator at Paris Saint-Germain)

Yep because we have an abundance of creativity and players who can actually pass the ball in our team don't we We have played 20 through balls so far this season with Cabaye and Ben Arfa producing more than half of them he clearly isn't the problem despite how desperate you are to finish 12th and have Nolan back instead of European football "20 through balls" Mole_Prozonefan This can be a positive if it forces Pardew to try something different to what we know clearly doesn't work. The Swansea game was going to be the same as the West Ham game and we all know it. -

Jonas and Cabaye being out of the team might actually help based on their form. They certainly wouldn't have been dropped. -
Linked to this, take Leon Osman. Hardly a spectacular player nor a top drawer player, but a fairly good one who is technically sound. Should have been in the squad a while ago but instead dross like Henderson are handed opportunities, and Gareth f***ing Barry still gets picked. Osman however plays for Everton (read: not Man Utd, Liverpool etc). He is a better footballer than Tom Cleverley for example IMO. The latter however plays for Man Utd. Not saying we should be regularly playing Osman, but it's scandalous someone like him wasn't given an opportunity earlier. For me, our insistence on playing someone like Barry (of Man City royalty) over giving someone like Osman a chance earlier on sums up what's been wrong with this country's national team and set-up for quite a long time. http://d.yimg.com/i/ng/sp/empics/20120423/21/2920111736-23042012213052.jpg He must have scored about 50 goals since we went down, which is probably more than all the strikers have in that time.

I really do think that was better. Nolan 4 England.

It always greatly amuses me when a "tactically astute" manager gets undone by a very simple, Sunday league goal. Barcelona passed the ball 10,000 times against Celtic and then a header from a corner and a long ball from the keeper did them in. Back to your chalkboards. Zlatan's 4th tonight sums it up. What can a machine tell us about that? Embrace the chaos. It makes football fun.

They were on public sale, weren't they? Not that many ST holders must have wanted them.

Football didn't used to be this boringly complicated
-
That's what I think. There's probably some clauses in his contract about losing a certain percentage of games so he plays it safe.

That doesn't make any sense at all If he's off in January, it's not like we're going to get more than £7m anyway, so it doesn't matter if he or anyone else scores for us. Surely then it'd be better to just tell him to play out wide and try and Cissé in form for when he leaves and the team to get used to the 4-3-3 again? As Ba is currently the inform striker he's in the middle with seemingly little thought about anything else. This might be because we think he'll be off in January so we're sticking with the in form player while he's scoring and will change the formation in January when the "problem" of Ba needing to be on the pitch, but not wanting to play out wide, is "solved". Ba going out wide now is risking a lot considering his form and Cisse's form.
