Regardless of whether or not there was a decent chance of a counter attack I used to love Revista De La Liga and Mark Bolton I think it was as the presenter and regular commentator on games. Always watched La Liga games growing up. Don’t follow it at all now.

Yeah. He fucked up and lost the ball carelessly that set them off on dangerous counters. Was sloppy in possession. But loves finding space in that right channel and looks to get beyond Wilson and in behind their defence. I think/hope Tonali, Longstaff and Bruno on Tuesday will have a bit of balance and work well.

Both him and Bruno have been collecting yellows for fun. Proper daft. He was class, mind. Certainly settling into Howe’s team.

Botman Island Him and Schar work so well together. Just dovetail perfectly and both calm as you like on the ball. They had two pacey, awkward strikers on and then brought and even more rapid one on. They didn’t really cause problems bar a couple of chances at the start. When the whole team was dysfunctional.

Same. They played a half together against Brentford at their place last season and took their defence to the cleaners. They couldn’t live with them.

Slightly different level, mind. He did play off the left for Bristol Rovers and all, I believe.

I don’t like him in the middle. I think he has great footwork and he’s really good on the ball. Neat and tidy, plays off both feet, has the odd trick. But too often, he looks a bit lost positionally, to me. Like he’ll go and press, but get easily bypassed and never seems effective in doing so. Or when a player is receiving the ball. He regularly gets into a position which means he can’t win it. But where he somehow is also turned with ease and then he’s in no man’s land. I think he has looked quality wide left. But he would be what, third or fourth choice for that position? Sounds harsh reading that back. As I rate him and he’s young. I just don’t think he suits playing centre mid at this level.

He looked hesitant the first 15-20. Not committing to challenges, which we know Howe expects across the board. Not really looking to run in behind or take his man on. He was getting better and better, mind. Was arguably our best player for a spell before he came off. Once we got more space, he started looking dangerous. I don’t think there were many standout performers. But he was one of our better players tonight. I quite liked the balance of Gordon on the right with him left. They’ll get far more space against teams that don’t drop 5 so deep like that and when we have the lead in games.

Just what we needed, that. Clean sheet, overcame a bit of a bad start, never really troubled and felt like there was more there if needed. Especially off the bench. They’re a cunt to play against and we won’t look so disjointed with some regulars coming back in. Not great. But moving in the right direction and the result was basically all that mattered today.
