This is very much aligned with my thinking. We’ve overpaid massively for some shit/average/decent players in the summer. Wissa, Ramsey and especially Elanga don’t move the needle for basically anybody in the PL, let alone a club who’s just qualified for the Champions League. Really gutted at how we spent the money last summer and fear it’ll have a lasting impact for a while.

Definitely a sense of entitlement above much else. Compare tonight to the Leicester quarter final in 22/23 and it’s chalk and cheese. Mind I do think the energy that team played with had such a positive influence on the atmosphere.

It was desperately stupid to pay £55m for him yes. I’ve said on here before I think he’s decent, but not £55m decent. Nowhere near.

Think last summer’s business won’t be remembered fondly in years to come. Sort of similar to when Spurs sold Bale. Thiaw looks canny and Woltemade has his moments, but £150m + for the rest really irks me given we’re completely handcuffed by PSR. Wissa may come good and it’s far too early to write him off, but £55m is still ridiculous. Yes desperately scrambling at the end of the window but also desperately stupid. Ramsey I like but I’m still not sure what he brings to the table. Still, £43m for a player that might be better than Willock. He’s certainly not the type of midfielder we needed. Elanga I have no words really. Tried to give him benefit of doubt and time but he just looks completely lost out there. Wrong player completely for what we needed and telling that he’s seemingly 4th choice despite being signed for £55m 7 months ago.

Honestly up there for me is Man Utd in April of 22/23. 2-0 but realistically could have been 5 or 6 quite easily. Absolutely battered them from start to finish, equally as much of a pummelling as the Spurs game. That’s when I thought fuck me, we’re fucking class and I still think that was the very best version of Howe’s NUFC. That April was absolutely majestic.

To be fair our game finished mere minutes before MOTD started. They'd have been editing and getting all the interviews sorted which is why it wasn't first. -
I actually agree with you, but I would suggest basking in the glory of winning an all-timer and then having a whinge tomorrow. We were poor for (large) parts of the match but ultimately you can’t put a price on winning a game like that. My lass has been off work with the flu so I had to give me ticket to me Da so I can tend to the brats, so imagine how I feel now

Was still shitting it when I seen he was the one taking the pen mind

Reminded me so much of the Gayle winner in that Norwich game. -

These were 18th in the away table and had scored 8 goals away from home all season before tonight. Can’t dress it up for me. Barring a minor miracle here - Fucking shit. -

Have to do something we never do and win from behind. Aside from that 10 minute spell we had, Leeds are deserving of a lead. Soft penalty or not. I don’t care how good they’ve been recently, it shouldn’t be like this - especially at home. -

This is fucking awful. Letting them dictate the game. Really, really bad. -
Seconded. Warrior.

Please don’t become a PSR pawn. He’s fucking class. -
Yes you’re absolutely on the money there, I think it’s the fact it was Burnley is part of the reason people (me) were so disappointed (but not surprised) at how poorly we played for a big chunk of the game Tuesday. Obviously I know every away game is a tough game and I was quite clear in the matchday thread after the game that the result is ultimately the most important thing, but it felt no different to most games this season, just thankfully with a better result.
-
We definitely got a lot better about the time you mentioned and managed the game far more efficiently after that, but the period prior was about as awful as parts of the West Ham and Brentford games for sure. We couldn’t get the ball out at times and it didn’t feel much different to 90% of the away performances this season (to me anyway). Whilst I agree stats are a good barometer, the eye test is the better when judging performance. The stats probably show we were far better than Wolves and Fulham at home but it never felt like that on the day to me.

0*. They can’t have lost many games in total all season tbh. Burnley, Fulham and City? Some going at the turn of the year. People underrate them because it’s Sunderland, but the truth is they’re a solid side who’ve shown they can compete in this league (at least for now) They’ve been very fortunate in more ways than one but they also have competed well and took the game to far superior sides than they are. Fair play to them.
-
Maybe I’m remembering it wrong. We we were pretty shit the back end of the first half too, though not near as bad as the first half of the second half. We definitely had the better chances and were the better team, but not by much.
-
I mean it wasn’t for the rest of the match but the first 20/30 minutes of the second half was pretty much a Burnley onslaught.
-
They’ll be pushing for the European spots. Not saying they’ll get it but they’ll be flirting for sure, everyone expected them to drop off by now but they’ve held Arsenal and Man City at home, drew at Anfield and beat Chelsea away. Not to mention beating us in the game that means the most to them. That’s no fluke - they’re an efficient side that’s hard to break down. Not easy on the eye but ultimately who cares? The job was to stay up and they’d achieved that by about November. An absolute dream season for them and probably the best in most of their lives.

I think becoming good/having a successful few years hasn’t helped either, but aye ticketing is the main issue. The atmosphere at St James’ in the first year or two post-takeover is miles better than it is now, so I think it’s a combination of ballots/ticketing and expectation levels being raised.
