  1. Tricky one, this. Denmark’s 3-4-3 is quite different to Germany’s and they can easily change to a 4-3-3 at any point with Christensen moving up. We’ll win though.
  2. Also been able to almost completely forget about the existence of NUFC which is a blessing.
  3. This is the best Euros in my memory and not just because of England doing well. There’s been a few dead games in terms of atmosphere but there’s been more than enough of the opposite. Loads of cracking games and stories; particularly the round of 16 which I think I’ll remember for a long time. Was just mental.
  4. I think the mistakes he makes on the ball are more about concentration though. He regularly takes risks in possession when I watch him; Guardiola wouldn't use him as he does (inside, heavily involved in build up) if he was crap with the ball.
  5. Kyle Walker is excellent. He makes mistakes occasionally but he's absolutely vital in this defence and he is also the only defender we have that is capable of taking risks and playing passes through opposition lines. Was more or less our best performer vs Germany imo. He wasn't great yesterday but the way he played, essentially a defensive full back covering the lack of pace in Stones/Maguire, is what freed up Shaw to get forward and be so creative.
  6. I think we’ve completely controlled our games, other than Scotland. To say we’ve been defensive is objectively incorrect. Boring is subjective so you can have that, but we’ve still gone about it in entirely the right way so far.
  7. Fair enough. Boring teams consistently win international tournaments (although I don’t think we’ve been boring at all tbh).
  8. What argument are you making?
  9. Just can’t see any opposition team handling Shaw and Sterling. They seem to have a perfect understanding in attack.
  10. Fantastic performance, that. 100% coming home.

The clamour for Grealish to start as though he's Messi is , but I think there's a strong argument to start him the next game and play Sterling on the right. Sterling is basically in the team to score goals and I don't think it matters whether he plays left of right at this point.
  12. Kind of annoying that we weren't in for him on a loan.

I know it never feels that way watching as a fan because you’re nervous af for 90 minutes, but that was as controlled as England are ever going to get against a side like Germany. Our tactics/formation/whatever nullified them, their wing backs were barely in the game, and their main chance to score was as a result of an individual error in an attacking scenario. We dictated that. If you were watching that as a neutral you’d be saying England are genuine contenders on that performance.
  14. Still can’t tell if people are joking or not when saying it wasn’t a red What do you expect going into a 50-50 with your studs at 90 degrees, knee height?
  15. Completely impossible to defend against that.
  16. The guy is completely out of control going into more or less a 50/50 with his studs at 90 degrees that high.
  17. Red all day long man. It’s a miracle he’s not broken his leg.

I get the argument for wanting more attacking football given the forwards we have but we have literally got to the quarter finals without conceding a goal. We haven’t looked threatened by the opposition in most games and this is a tournament where France lost to Switzerland etc. Even tonight Germany’s main chance was due to Sterling making an individual error in an attacking scenario. We’ve had bags of attacking talent in the past and gotten nowhere. We just beat Germany. In a knock out game. 2-0.
  19. Spot on. I think a lot of us might’ve gotten a bit too used to moaning about the team we support . If you couldn’t enjoy that performance - knocking Germany out of a tournament 2-0 - I think it’s probably time to consider whether watching football is a healthy lifestyle choice for you.
  20. For me, the defiance against the racists has made this team a whole lot easier to get behind too. I’ve never wanted an England side to win more despite feeling extremely disconnected from football at club level.
  21. We’re all Newcastle fans here. I know what it’s like to support a genuinely dull team. England aren’t dull. There is attacking purpose behind the tactics. We exploited their wing back system without ever letting them get in behind ours. The displays from the likes of Sterling, Saka, Phillips, Walker, Maguire, Shaw and Grealish weren’t dull imo.
  22. Mostly agreed although I honestly don’t think we should be classed as dull as fuck after that game. Calculated sure, but I don’t think we were dull.
