I would like to see Willock play in Longstaff’s role. Not just as a right sided player but actually in Longstaff’s deeper/more defensive role. He’s never going to be as defensively aware as Longstaff but I think in terms of receiving the ball deep, offering a legitimate passing option under pressure and being able to progress it either by passing or carrying is something worth trying.

for someone who's not supposed to be involved in general play much I thought he was last night tbh. Most touches in opponent area, second most touches in the attacking third, most progressive passes received, most progressive carries, most carries into the penalty area, most carries into the final third, most key passes and most ball recoveries (loose balls recovered). Replaced Gordon very well imo. Did enough for me to think we should definitely be trying him on the left with Gordon on the right against Full Ham on Saturday.

Really hope he improves his shooting. Gets plenty of good chances to score from around the box... 3 goals a season doesn't really cut it for someone of his ability.

it's how I saw it at the time tbf. A 1 in 25 chance of scoring sounds right for an edge of the area shot with 4 defenders (iirc) and a keeper to get through. Sorry, I'm gonna stop now

He was shouting and pointing at Bruno for him to press his man inside the opening 10 minutes of the game . I think he has the right mentality, for sure.

thought he was fine and I think people should probably remember he was out injured for well over a year and had only played 140 minutes in the premier league this season before tonight. He's gonna have to play most of the rest of the season now so get used to it

I guess any shot is a chance against Dubs tbf, so I'll concede I'm wrong.

Tarkowski's header after 8 minutes (0.25xg) and Docoure after 43 minutes (0.12xg) were their only shots to register over 0.07xg in the game other than the penalty. The Garner shot which hit the post was a 0.04xg effort generated from very little tbh.

Didn't really see any of those as chances tbh. The one where they hit the post was barely even a half chance. The chances we missed were much clearer imo. They came to counter but literally registered zero counter attacks - thought we managed that really well for a change so was happy with that. We still have the most clean sheets at home in the league this season and this was more like one of those performances but was ruined by Dummett being fucking brainless which is obviously hard to ignore. Clearly we tired in the last 20 minutes and started giving the ball away a bit more, but in terms of that we're back to the scenario where there's literally nothing we can do about that thanks to injuries. I dunno, I'm angry because of the nature we conceded but in terms of performance it was more like what I'd hope for than we've managed recently.

their only chance in the game was a penalty. It's a complete contrast to any of our recent performances where we've been gifting teams like Everton countless chances to score. We created chances, killed counter attacks before they began, battered them in duels and won second balls. We've not controlled a game as well as that for a while now.

Really hard disagree with this. It was a much better and more controlled performance than any recently.

been unimpressed by Willock's cameo. When you compare it with Anderson's performance it's night and day in terms of energy and enthusiasm.

Longstaff has been terrible recently but he's been good in this game barring that one error. No problem with that sub given Anderson's lack of football.
