My understanding (not sure if it's true) is that we can't host the air show because both Newcastle and our coast is too close to the airport and flight paths. Though Sunderland is still close in terms of air space it can be worked around for 48 hours where as having it at say Newcastle or Cullercoats isn't. Oh.
