  1. it was excellent shithousery its just mad can get away with it in the age of VAR wtf is the point of var if not shit like that
  2. its mad that diaz can shove schar over well after the whistle and that isn't considered violent conduct and that head movement is. I hate to use the phrase common sense but some surely has to be used here.
  3. Watching on match of the day they both go head to head. If Schar react slike Bereton Diaz what does the ref do? I reckon yellow card each for simulation. I know it's tough to write a law a bar by which something becomes violent conduct but that just makes everyone look ridiculous, and worst of all it makes everyone treat serious head injuries with a degree of skepticism. it is annoyign that with var they couldnt look at it and think no this is ridiculous and yellow card both sides for being dumb, it's not a thing that should impact a game so much.
  4. Get in, will forget the manner of that win in the long run but fuck me we need to improve.
  5. Watching the liverpool ipswich game, man Lex Luthor has really let himself go

Longstaff is not disciplined enough to be a pure defensive midfielder let alone a centre back. And I say that with a lot of appreciation for Longstaff but one of the reason he could be so frustrating last season was because of the Joelinton injury he was asked to be the defensive midfielder and he just does not look after the ball. He's good at pressuring and winning the ball but the difference between him and Joelinton is Joelinton is a nightmare for the opposition to then get the ball back off, if they do it takes so long the rest of the team can be back in position, and equally Joelinton is a lot better at doing a quick neat ball out of pressure as soon as the ball is won back, often forward. Longstaff's instinct is often to surge forward or go for a more ambitious diagonal to the flanks, both reasonable options but both more likely to result in a turnover in possession. Neither Joelinton or Longstaff are perfect defensive mids, and remember the big plan last summer was for Bruno to move back into defensive mid with joelinton and tonali ahead. It wasn't just Tonali's suspension that stopped that, Bruno is waaaaay better in an attacking capacity. Anyway all to say longstaff would give the ball away waaaaay too much to play regularly at centre back. He can get away with doing it a few times from midfield, your centre back does it it's normally a goal conceded.
  8. Don't want Gallagher we already have a bunch of all action midfielders we need a defensive technical type more imo.

we say last bid they do some brinkmanship now, i say just walk away at this point, if we were far apart should have been clear by now.

And then on deadline day deals take 1 hour to make, it's weird isnt it
  11. I think what's happened here is I have decided to pick the silliest hill to die on here somewhat given that a) I don't think Howe will be sacked b) I don't think Howe deserves to be sacked c) I think the betting companies are basically wrong but I do see the chain of logic that gets them to their conclusion. And for this minor quibble over essentially semantics I am apparenly pissing the bed. I am mainly wondering a) why everyone is so furious at me for such a minor thing and b) why I bothered to argue this incredibly pedantic minor point in short
  12. This is basically where I am at, and I agree actually surely one of the promoted team maangers gets the sack first regardless, but I still think people underplay staverley being gone a bit in all this, she was on record as his big champion. But we're not run by hasty hotheads so yes in that sense the betting companies miscalculate, but in general football manager terms the ingredients are in the mix a bit imo. I do stand by Howe being under more pressure having been given time and patience, I don't think he starts the season blank slate.
  13. I did read back at my first post, I think I misjudged what I wrote a bit, I said no doubt he will be gone which is flat out completely wrong, sorry in the middle of stuff was poorly worded, I should have said essentially if the owners lose hope early of a better finish to this season than last because of a bad start (and i mean terrible start, not moderate) I think he would be replaced, which is what the betting companies are suggesting. I wouldn't myself put the odds anywhere near that because Howe is really good and I'm sure we will have a good start and nothing worse than an average one. Anyway sorry for the first post, hope that clarifies. I don't agree he should be favourite but i can understand why the betting companies may be thinking that way.
  14. I definitely think their perception of our owners is wrong, I'm with you on that, however I also don't think it is short termist of them to be concerned if we look far away from champions league money. Look at what happened when we missed it this year panic sales and nearly getting points deductions. Unfortunately now failing to achieve league position does have tremendous long term impact. A few more wins last season we still have Minteh if he goes on to be a world beater could have been a massive sliding doors moment for us. (we will be fine and find other world beaters). I'm not saying I think Howe will be sacked, I am saying I can understand the chain of logic that he is at risk.
  15. Again don't disagree I just can at least understand betting companies there. Slot will be given time more likely though. Ten Hag yeah can definitely see him being sacked.
  16. Don't disagree, again just can understand the wavelength the betting odds are on.
  17. I don't think the season showed Howe in a bad light at all for the record. I just think the owners, especially with Staverley gone will be looking at the bottom line, which will be hurt if we are not top 4. I also think they will rationalize that they were already very patient with him with last seasons woes and will think not too late in the season will be as good a time as any and see if there's better available. I think it will be a mistake as well, and I hope we are patient, but all I am saying is I can understand why some of the betting companies have taken this view. edit: Also sorry, i wasn't really hurt I just feel i express this and the first two responses are furious and I don't understand why, I'm not attacking Howe I love him
  18. Because I'm right. Charming lot some of you.
  19. Yeah fuck commas. It's clearly not nonsense, think if we have a bad start we are going to give him another season not bothering champions league with our PSR nonsense issues? And again Howe is great, this is not going to happen but I can understand why bookies have him as a favourite.
  20. i got laughed out of town for this, but Howe has now had his 'poor season' which the owners have given him, they won't let him have another, and with staverley gone he has less friends in board room. If we have a bad start i have no doubt he will be gone unless everyone gets injured from car crashes that arent his fault or something as we have fewer games to worry about. In short I do think he has more pressure than other managers in the league and if we're deep midtable in mid october i imagine there will be serious rumblings. This is not what i think will happen by the way i think we will have a good season.
  21. Had a lovely day, went with mate and his 3 kids two of whom were coming to teh game the other one staying with his grandparent (other coming to game). It was the middle kids first time at St James though not sure he will be a regular he's way less football mad than his older brother. He did indeed complain of being bored, but also got laughs from people around us demanding someone press right shoulder button to get the players to sprint hah. I havent been back for a while and walking into stadium felt a little emotional. It was also nice from a personal perspective to attend with my gay pride pin visible and not have any bother. Hardly the hugest deal but with rise of far right and worries about thugs in game think it important to be visible, even if via small pin lol.
  22. I think they're mistaking totally ignoring for haven't ruled out
