  1. One of the great mysteries of the universe is why the fuck professional strikers can't stay onside.
  2. No you couldn't, because it could still be considered a foul due to being reckless or dangerous, or unsportsmanlike conduct. I mean, you may be happy with things as they are, but for me pens like that ruin the sport. I can't agree that a ball deliberately kicked out for a goal kick to draw a foul warrants a crack from 12 yards.
  3. But the definition of a foul in that context is that the player has been impeded. I don't agree that someone who's kicked the ball out has been impeded, because there's nothing he can do to further influence that sequence of play. It's one of my football pet hates. It's not long ago that people were kicking the ball so it was going out before kicking the keeper in the ribs to have an excuse to fall over, and getting the keeper sent off as well as a penalty! Completely ruined numerous games.
  4. In my view those penalties should never be given (unless the tackle is judged to be reckless or dangerous). He's kicked the ball so there's nothing he or anyone else can do to stop it going for a goal kick. Therefore he hasn't been impeded by the tackle. Happens time and time again, and I completely disagree with it. And yet their argument for not giving that foul on Fraser by the keeper last year was that the opposing player had the ball! He was far more able to influence play than someone who kicks the ball out. There are far too many soft as shite penalties. Puts me off the sport tbh, to some extent. I think the powers that be like lots of penalties because they think it adds to the entertainment.
  5. Don't remember any. Only notable thing was that the drivers didn't accept the champagne on the podium. Edit. Sorry for more pedantry, but can't resist pointing out it's flak - Flugabwehrkanone.
  6. I've wondered for many years how it can be that so many professional footballers don't seem to grasp that the most important part of passing and movement is the movement.
  7. Tbf someone did point out to him our goals conceded record over the last few years. The guy obviously made the mistake of assuming Brewcie being defensive meant we were actually any fucking good at it.
  8. From a Southampton forum. The stuff people get in their heads, man! 'In fairness them having a good defence doesn't mean he can organise one as he's still only recently taken over a club with 5/6 years of defensive mentality beforehand. I'd wager their defence will begin to fall apart by this time next year.'

Need Mowbray to stay there awhile. Let's hope he doesn't get headhunted.
  10. 991 on Virgin, BBC red button.
  11. I imagine it's also to allow a concussed player to be subbed if 5 have already been used.
  12. It seems reasonable to conclude that, except he seems to be so fucking greedy I can't help wondering how low he'd be willing to go to scam another few quid for minimal effort.
  13. Or brings the ball under control and creates the chance.
  14. What I can't fathom is why any club willing to hand the job to Steve Bruce would actually pay anyone to do it. I mean you could just borrow a chimp from Edinburgh zoo. Put him in a tracksuit and let him stand on the touchline and point. Be just as useful.
  15. Eddie's just said on SSN that it was a case of picking the players that were in the best physical shape.

That's fair enough, but a decent academy might have sorted him out. The way I see it, if you sell a youngster cheaply and he ends up a top player, it's a failure on behalf of the club whatever way you look at it. Which is not to suggest that infallibility is to be expected - just that a fuck up is a fuck up.

? Yeah, you could see the lad's momentary surprise at being asked what he'd just said.

But maybe he could have had a loan spell or two which would have made him the player he is today.
  19. Because the purpose of the broadcast is to allow the director to show off, rather than for the benefit of the viewer.
  20. 'Merse' should be asked if they should go for Brewcie. After all, he reckons he's a top drawer manager who ticks all the boxes. And all the other cunts like Arteta who bigged him up. 'Should they go for Steve Bruce? Deserves to see what he can do with a decent budget right?' Answer that and stay fashionable.
  21. The problem with that is the 'mistakes' become just mistakes. With VAR they don't have an excuse. The evidence is there - what's required is a concerted effort by clubs and fans to call the FA out on it.
  22. It was a penalty decision IIRC. Ref had a look and stuck with his decision. Jeff S made a big deal of it, understandably.
  23. But we're already fucked with injuries. ☹️

Lots of skill and potential. Does currently miss a fair number of chances, but on the other hand he makes a lot himself and doesn't rely on being fed. Sees him as an ideal signing for where we are now and where we're heading.
