I think the little spell he's had on the wing might help him longer term as it's forced him to work on his all-round game and he probably has a bit more appreciation of how the team works. Enough's enough now though - get this lad through the middle and he'll win us games.

It's canny different when it's him though. He purposely chose a team that wins everything just so he has the opportunity to gloat. Really thought he showed his strength of character today - we just went to the home of the best team in the country without 4 of our best team and had a right good go at the bastards, playing some lovely football and hitting the woodwork twice. So disappointing to lose, but plenty to be pleased about.

Just call the glory hunting c***s for what they are. No point getting wound up by a bunch of table top supporters. They are all my soon to be inlaws...so that might be frowned upon. Makes it even more important to set your stall out early to be honest. Aim to be so violently hostile and unpleasant that they never want to watch a match with you again, will save yourself years of trauma.

It's a related point though - it's far easier to impose your style on an opponent when you have far more/better players than they do. It's an excuse. They still have the same amount of time as us to prepare for each match. Having a better squad doesn't magically gift them more time to prepare. It is an excuse, but a valid one IMO. There's a reason the teams playing in Europe regularly have far bigger squads. Bit of a vicious circle for teams like us though - you need the money from Europe to afford more/better players, and you need those players to do well in Europe - increase your squad size and cost to compete well in Europe then don't qualify and you're fucked.

Sounds to me like Pardew has spoken to the Nigerian manager and has a gentlemens' agreement not to call him up, but that isn't going to wash with their FA. To be fair to Shola, he isn't going to get another chance to play in an international tournament so I would understand if he wanted to go.

Don't think anyone can dispute that tbh. Some more positive signs in recent weeks I think though, and a decent transfer window would certainly be a big help (and a pleasant surprise)
