We have an English Manager and that's going well. Although the Premier League probably isn't directly responsible the money involved in Top-Flight football and subsequently down the pyramid of the football league creates an emphasis on Winning rather than development. Arguably this has led to teams placing too much emphasis on physicality rather than talent.

This is the guy who decided not to pass to Danny Simpson for an entire season. I don't think his decision making is as bad as its made out to be. I think if there is a good pass on he takes it. If there isn't he won't. It's hardly a big problem nor does it preclude him from being a good player. He does try to do too much sometimes but I think if the team moves away from their static play you will see him distribute the ball more often.

I don't think they will break the top 4. I think that they will come close over a couple of seasons without succeeding. This will put big pressure on Rodgers in due course and it will be hard for them to move forward as a club without the Champions League. The one thing they do have is if a couple of their players have a big season they will be able to sell them for big money which will ensure they are competitive in the transfer market.

Surely this means there were options available within our financial means that were better than the players we already have. Ameobi, Jonas, Tiote. All replaceable, one feels for a reasonable price. A half decent replacement for any of those three would have improved us and taken us forward. Incidentally Jonas and Tiote are two of Pardew's ever presents. This could be done by way of a fine, which would come with the added benefit of not harming the team on the pitch. You could easily draw inferences about his behaviour from the way the club 'disciplined' him.
