  1. Not necessarily - its more about strengthening the squad sufficiently - that doesn't always mean spending more or huge amounts of money. It would also be a sign of ambition for Ashley to just employ better management/coaching staff too, who could potentially get more/the best out of the players we already have, too.
  2. Also, he's just made over £100m from selling some of his SD shares, hasn't he? Could he be more likely to write off the debt, and just lower the asking price this time? If he does decide to cut and run, that is.
  3. Have to admit, I was one who thought any pre-match protests were a waste of time, given the lack of effect similar things have had in the past. However, the fact he has taken this action against local press simply for reporting the event, shows he's 'Rattled, Marra'... and I hope there is now another protest, with just as much (or more) publicity. Maybe, just maybe, its started getting to him?
  4. Which was the win? 'Ryan Taylor Over The Wall' Hehe... theres an echo in here.

  8. I avoided the last one, as I feared it might go wrong.... didn't think it would go that wrong though! Went out for the day, and avoided any news on it until it had finished. Felt sick when I heard the result. Lets hope we can give them one back for that, this Sunday! Haven't decided whether to watch it or not, yet though.

Having a listen to Radio Newcastle's phone-in now. First Caller: "We let our 3 best players go, and didn't bring any replacements in"

So they are now going in reverse gear Sounds like some classic Macktracking, right there.
  12. Great first half performance - sending off obviously changed the game, and way we had to play second half, and in the end have to be happy with a draw - however, had it stayed 11 v 11, I think we could have won that game. Lets hope we can play as well (minus the sending off) next weekend.

Hehe, just reading NUFC.com and their article about the Premier League away fans initiative thing, and it highlights what other clubs are doing ,and saw this... "Mackems subsidise away tickets at certain fixtures by £10 and have improved the concourse, signage and bar areas for travelling fans. They will also produce 40,000 guidebooks for visiting fans with things to see and do while in the area." Page 1 - go to Newcastle
  15. Don't waste your cash on the shirt. And ask him what he'd like? Hehe, aye you're right - Its just become a bit of a habit/tradition, but would rather (and probably will) spend the money on something he'd appreciate more.
  16. Hmm, bit torn about this. Its our sons 10th birthday next month, and for the last 3 years, I've bought him a new shirt, with his name and age on the back. Thing is, he isn't really into football, and doesn't wear the shirts much, so I'm wondering whether its worth spending £50 (incl printing) for a shirt this year.

You'd hope after the last Derby result, our own players shouldn't need too much motivation to put the result right. Its a cliche, but pin up that pic of PDC on his knees, on the dressing room wall.

Aye, I'm guessing their managers job application form was a bit like this... 1. Have you ever scored against Newcastle? 2. Have you ever managed a team to a win against Newcastle? 3. If you answered 'yes' to either/both of the above, when can you start?

Did Ball win any matches last time he was caretaker? I know he was in charge when we beat them 4-1 (even luque scored) down there. Cannot remember how many games he's been caretaker now, in total.

People thought the same last season, when a 0-6 home defeat followed the 0-3 derby home defeat.

I find it hard to believe PDC had no involvement in the mass recruitment when that is exactly what happened at the only other club he has managed as well. According to their pundit/commentator (Nick Barnes) on Total Sport earlier this week, apparently Di Canio told Di Fanti the type of players he wanted, and how he wanted the team to set-up and play, and then Di Fanti went out and found (presumably suitable) players, but Di Canio still had the final say whether said players were to be signed or not. So, I'd guess Di Canio must have asked for (at least) 14 players, but Di Fanti and the italian scout went out and found the players to fit the request(s)?

At the end of the day, he (if it is Poyet) is still an untried manager at this level, so hopefully he may struggle with the step up in level. And as stated above, he still only got the same 'Frankenstein Squad' that Di Canio and/or Di Fanti assembled.
