Think I'd go with this too. Don't think either of those two CBs will be playing though, nor Anita. Williamson/Taylor/Colback and Gouff in for those guys and Perez is my guess.

Poor decision imo. He's been poor and individually responsible for various goals we've conceded over the past two+ years due to his horrendous decision making. That has absolutely nothing to do with Williamson playing alongside him or the midfield btw. I agree that he is the best CB at the club right now without knowing what Mbemba will be like but that's merely an indictment of the other players we have rather than praise for him. Should've let him see out his last year then got rid. I do agree his ability on the ball may be very important if we are going to try and play out from the back however.

In regards to him playing the "deadwood", I think McClaren has the right (and is right) to give everyone a chance. He'll want to see everyone for himself before deciding on what his best team is. Any manager would do the same thing. I agree that some of his team selections thus far have been strange but we don't know where these players are in terms of their fitness, how they look in training etc. as well as injuries to certain players like Coloccini. If he persists with the likes of Obertan being in the squad once the season is under way and players are at full fitness then I'll start to question his team selections.

tbf how many games did Cisse play last year? Off hand I know he missed 10 through suspension, a few more due to the ACON and probably more due to injury

I think in the second half that aspect of our play improved a lot, a big problem for some time has been that the wide players were so conservative under Pardew (Gouff etc.) that our attacking play normally consisted of just Sissoko and the striker with little support coming from elsewhere. I think with the likes of Wijnaldum and de Jong in the team, both of whom seem to be intelligent runners off the ball we should see the striker being less isolated. Don't really see many scenarios where 4-4-2 can be successful for us.

Think we were the better team for most of the game. Defensively we look very worrying mind.
