1. One example from thousands. Most people know the story of Seth Johnson and Leeds United when that lunatic Peter 'we lived the dream' Ridsdale was chairman. Story goes - and I've heard it first hand from when I used to pal about with Ian Harte when working in Leeds - thus (and remember, this was 15 years ago): Johnson's at Derby, LUFC want him, agree fee with DCFC so Johnson and agent head for Elland Road looking for personal terms. Johnson was on £5k/wk at DCFC and as they're going up to the stadium, he's asking his agent what he reckons he can get him weekly. Agent replies: 'I reckon they'll go to £20k'. Johnson, delighted, replies: 'seriously? a million quid a year?' Agent says he'll do his best as it's in both their interests. So the two of them are shown into Ridsdale's office and before either Johnson and his agent have even said 'good morning', the man himself stands up and slaps his palms hard on his big, oak desk and says to the two of them: 'Right, if you think we're paying more than £35k a week you can just turn around and go back the way you came'... Ridsdale's PA caught Johnson and agent pissing themselves laughing as they left the stadium. And smiled wearily at them.
2. We paid Monaco £1.8m for his services. £3.8m would not have got us Lacazette. Thought we paid £6m+ for him? Lacazette was around £11m at the time. No, we paid £1.8m and Ashley did the usual thing of 'I'm spending the TV money, honest' by factoring in the player's wages. Cabella only cost us £5.2m also. Got this on very good authority from someone at France Football when we signed them, and posted it at the time. That Cabella figure is wrong. Sorry to report that it's entirely correct. Double sourced, in fact.
3. We paid Monaco £1.8m for his services. £3.8m would not have got us Lacazette. From what I remember we were a few million apart in our valuation with Lyon's while negotiating for Lacazette's services (who may or may not have been interested) and decided to go for Riviere as a cheaper alternative in the end to plug the striker hole. Two years later, Lacazette is worth at least double what Lyon wanted, we are in the Championship and Riviere is out on loan to Osasuna. I was just contemplating what might have been if we hadn't penny pinched. Well, we didn't quite 'penny pinch' as the difference in price was £10m and the difference in wages would have been significant (Riviere is 'only' on £22.5k/wk @ SJP) but obviously, yes, I agree who we should have bought but the song remains the same as long as that fat c*** remains at the club. Rafa's tuning up, though.

6. The club has a cancer. Until it is removed, nothing will really change.
7. Any exiled Mags in Malta meeting up for this game in Sliema/Gzira/St Julian's? There's an average bar on Sliema Bay that shows the games and we're the only show in town so they will put our lot on, the only worry being they might keep their shite europop music on with it being a Friday, but there's a screen near the back where they'll put the commentary on. Biffa is going to put up a 'where in the world?' piece imminently, but if anyone's planning to meet up in Malta for Friday's game then I'd love to join you. Conversely, if anyone is at a loose end and wants some company for the same, then give me a shout.
8. When that fat c*** finally has a coronary we can just have the old letters redrawn and replace the minging SD font. The original design will be in a draughtsman's drawer somewhere, but failing that, a decent draughtsman would be able to recreate from pics. That's something I often wish for. That and can they clean the f***ing place, please?
9. It will definitely not have the white box. They'll either close up the stripes or use a different sponsor.
10. I think his candour is borne by desperation to lay all his cards on the table in the search for a new job; i.e. I won't make the same mistakes again, etc. If he was planning to retire I think he'd keep it zipped but I reckon his gargantuan ego thinks he's got one last job in him. I'd be very surprised if any league clubs concur. EDIT: Jesus, he's only 55. I thought he was well into his 60s...
11. He has. What a twat. He's going nowhere unless we get decent coin for him.
12. Years ago, mate. I wrote most of the one that will be used by a publication in Scotland. Not that I'm amazing at obits, I just knew more about the subject.

Steven Taylor

Knowing Taylor Scotland. Looks like you were right. Rangers and Celtic battling for his signature apparently. Celtic, not a chance. Rangers probably stupid enough to believe he'll improve their atrocious defence.

Lee Charnley

Unlikely. He's shown utter incompetence at every turn. In truth, he deserves no credit for Rafa staying - it was the fans that did all the work. He still deserves credit for the part he played in it. Which was what, precisely? Making the fucking tea?

Papiss Cissé

Qatari giants? He's been a waste of space for two years now, dining out on his first 4 months. Tara Papiss, your pretend Dua celebrations will go down a storm in front of your new 3,000 crowds. I went to see a few games when I was working in Qatar a few years back. One Lekhwiya game I went to had about 1,100 there.

18. So did I until he started slagging off NUFC for 'mistreating' Marcelino, and defending his 17 league games in four years for us. The fact that he's mates with Marcelino was purely coincidental.
19. Everyone has exactly the same rights and reasons to complain if they want to. Just because you don't go to the games (and I have only been to a few this season myself - both through lack of interest, other more important things to do etc) it does not automatically give you more right to complain. Just because you feel like you're doing something to "make a stand". The whole argument is so f***ing high and mighty man. It's embarrassing. No, you're posts have been embarassing. Beautifully argued, well done. Liked the bad grammar also..
20. Sorry guys - it came like that...
21. Very 'him' sort of behaviour. He did it again after stinking the place out in his 2nd stint at Liverpool, then returned to the club a a NED. A nasty piece of work by many accounts as borne out by his performance re: Suarez. I also hear that there are significant differences between his reported post-Hillsborough behaviour, and the reality. Oh, and the blatant cowardice needs a mention as well. I could have managed the LFC side he inherited in 1985 to the double, and its subsequent successes but the very instant (4-4 v. EFC in the cup in 1991) it became obvious that his side was ageing and needed a complete overhal, he didn't see him for dust - citing unspecified 'health problems' (which had cleared up by October, he pitched up at Ewood Park. Throughout his (managerial) career, he's been very well rewarded (and very litigious) for very little return. Whatever he did or didn't do at NUFC I can't comment about, but don't speak for Liverpool. Kenny was magnificent after Hillsborough, if you don't want to believe that then fine. You'll find very few Scousers who agree with you, including Evertonians. In the words of Margaret Aspinall only a few weeks ago...“Kenny’s always been there for the families and he didn’t in any way shape or form let us down.” As for his 'inherited' team (always makes me laugh), that he built (Barnes Beardsley, Aldridge, McMahon etc.......They were the best English side I've ever seen play in this country. What you call inheritance, we at Liverpool used to call continuity. It worked for us because each manager took the team forward and Kenny more than carried on that tradition. Carried on that tradition, did he? You've not won the league since. He had another crack, of course, please tell us what tradition was the legacy of his 2nd stint..? The only things I can think of were spunking £35m on Carroll, and the t-shirts for the racist biter. If that's progress, what you at Liverpool call 'continuity', then you're welcome to it. Your quote refers to the team he 'inherited' in 1985, the one I referred to as continuity. You didn't mention his second stint in your post, but for the record he got us to two finals and won us a trophy in his second stint. I wouldn't say his second time as manager was successful as far as the league goes, but he did bring Luis Suarez in whose sell on fee of 75 million more than makes up for Carrolls fee. Oh hang on Carroll was bought from Torres's 50 million move to Chelsea. His last league title was 1990 and nobody here expected him to do the same when he came back, we were just grateful to get rid of Hodgson. The continuity was broken when Souness was appointed after Kenny left in 1990. *** 'Your quote refers to the team he 'inherited' in 1985, the one I referred to as continuity.' it does, and extensively comments on his second stab as well. You've already claimed that Kenny 'more than carried on' the 'tradition' of 'taking the team forward' only now you've actually decided he didn't... Anyway, you've picked the wrong place to argue that black is white. By all means cling onto the fantasy that Dalglish provided 'continuity' in his two managerial stints if it pleases you but we're way off topic. Maybe start a separate 'Hail! Dalglish!' thread here to see if anyone else is interested? He certainly made a c*** of managing my club and your little caveats, weasel words and downright fantasy won't change that. I mean, you seem to think that Dalglish first left LFC in 1990; that you can't get the basics right it makes it even harder to take you seriously.

23. why i'll always (now) despise mcclaren is that when it was very clear he had no answers to the situation he hung on and on and on, had he had the integrity to walk earlier then it would have forced the hand of a f***ing incompetent like charnley and we might have got rafa earlier as it was he sat week in week out with his stupid f***ing grinning face telling us things were magnificent everything comes down to ashley and charnley but he's got a lot to answer for That expression always makes me smile. As if anyone, in any walk of life, would quit a job (well paid or not) because they weren't making a good job of it. I am yet to see anyone with "integrity" in any walk of life it seems. That being said, McClaren is, and always will be, a mediocre manager. He came in, attempted to stir things up (whether the signings were his or not - I suspect not in most cases), and failed miserably. I still put most of the blame for our current predicament down to Ashley, Charnley, Carr and co before McClaren however. Gullit walked and didn't seek any sort of pay-off. Unlike that c*** Dalglish who got the and then took us to court for his pay-off having destroyed the team utterly and left the share price at well under half of what it was when he slunk into town. He should have been paying us, the c***. Dalglish took us to court? Never knew that. I think we coughed up before it got that far but 'lawyers had been instructed' and a hearing arranged. FS' rationale was as above - he owed us money for his gross imcompetence but a contract is a contract, and we settled. He did the same after his hilarious stint as Celtic boss. Sake man. Very 'him' sort of behaviour. He did it again after stinking the place out in his 2nd stint at Liverpool, then returned to the club a a NED.
