The season we finished 4th we really benefitted from that setup with a back 3 in attack with Trippier really high up on the right and the two Joes alternating on that left side. It caused sides all sorts of problems. Obviously we can't play that exact same way with the players we are starting with at the moment. But it is a bit disappointing that we haven't found any alternative inventive ways to set the side up and have basically turned into a bog standard 433 system.

The season we finished top 4 we were extremely well drilled to be fair. The way we pressed, had players rotating covering for each other etc whilst playing with that intensity had clearly been coached very well. We had a lot of clear patterns of play in attack in too. To me it seems more like we had a really great formula that just wasn't a sustainable way of playing long term and we've struggled to try and change/ evolve our game. Probably what separates the elite mangers, Pep and Klopp constantly evolved their sides and could either maintain or improve their level. Fergie was brilliant at it with Man United too.

We used to be a really nasty side to play against, pressed and ran every team of the pitch and were extremely hard to score against. But could struggle to break teams down a bit against sides who set up defensively. Last year we seemed to sacrifice a fair bit of that and were much more open but had a more fluid attack and created and scored a lot more. This season on the whole seems more a combination of the leaky and exposed defence but with the stale attack.

Aye, I think a lot are forgotten how bad he was for the majority of his time here. Didn't look like he could hack the pressure that came with playing for a bigger club at all, either. Think it was Sheffield in the cup where he blazed a sitter over the bar and you could tell he was pretty much done at that point. Was also costing us a fortune in terms of PSR. Our second most expensive player other than Isak in that regards, so there was no possible way we could afford to keep him on the books as a third choice.
