The big reason why I’m not convinced by the talk of budgets is that the parallel discussion on stated transfer targets makes no sense at all on that basis. If you’re operating within strict parameters, would our recruitment team really be targeting players who one would associate with an expected inflated fee, e.g. Gallagher, McTominay, Maddison.
