Seems like this is going to happen mind, too many corroborated media reports from the press at both clubs. I would expect this deal gets done very early in the summer. Hopefully for nothing more than £20m.
-
I would say Shelvey has a very different skillset to McTominay, it’s not really a fair comparison of midfield profiles. Bluntly, McTominay would be a bit of an empty shirt, another body for body’s sake. The ambitions of the club at this stage should be to add genuine quality. Also, I’d be okay with it if we’re talking £10 - £15m, but given inflated prices for Premier League British talents, we’re likely going to be paying £30m, which doesn’t make sense.
-
McTominay would be a shocking signing, he adds nothing to the current squad, both in terms of quality and midfield profile. He’s also in a price-bracket which is incredibly overinflated.
-
Agreed, home-grown rules notwithstanding, it does appear contradictory that the club continually brief the press about FFP difficulties and then target players in the most inflated price bracket possible (Gordon, Gallagher etc). Then again, we’re not going to get all the details on the club’s strategy, so may not be properly illustrative.

Notts Forest 1-2 Newcastle United (17/03/2023)

How come Danilo barely gets a look-in at Forest? Lot of hype around him when he signed and was viewed as a big coup. -
I’d be very wary about signing Phillips after his struggles this season. It would have to be a loan deal for me, which I doubt City would even consider.

Maddison Merino Abraham

Yeah wouldn’t really make a lot of sense, unless he’s totally lost confidence in the sporting project at Chelsea.

Mount seems a perfect type of player for Howe. Something to keep an eye on if we manage to get European football.

Allan Saint-Maximin (now playing for RC Lens)

Would absolutely hate if he played for another Premier League team like. The ideal scenario would be selling him to a club like PSG, admittedly an unlikely scenario. -
Really could do with Southampton and / or Leicester doing us a favour today.
-
I wonder if the club will use the international break as an opportunity to announce further commercial deals.

Should be a new ‘there is no need to be upset’ meme.

That is such a huge result honestly, like a real turning-point for the club. -

Pleased for Isak, he could end up with a healthy tally of goals by the end of the season -

Type of game I’d always feared we couldn’t handle. Just can’t see us scoring at all. -

Very predictable unfortunately -
At the risk of sounding like a spoilt brat, the forward options identified by the Athletic seem a tad uninspiring. For the outlay you’d end up spending on any of those, I’d be wanting much more proven quality.
