But the going rate is becoming more than is sensible due to PSR. Yeah, if they really, really want someone they can probably find the money, but it would impact significantly on what else they can do. If someone unsettled Tino this summer, how much would we ask for? £60m? £80m? No one is going to pay that because it would be silly in terms of PSR. We’ve seen Man Utd ridiculously overpay for players in recent times and look at the state that’s left them in. Yes, it’s partly (well, quite significantly) due to the players in question turning out to be mediocre/shite, but it’s also left them in a financial hole to the point they’re sacking dinner ladies to save £12.87.

The days of them being able to cherry-pick players from the likes of us and Villa are gone. Even clubs like Brighton, whose model is to sell, can command astronomical fees, so what’s a club that doesn’t want to sell going to ask for? Too much in the current PSR-landscape. The only way they can really get at our players is to start adopting Madrid-like long-term unsettling tactics, and that’s harder to do in the same country IMO.

He’s reportedly on 100k at Everton. If the theory of getting increased wages when you’re on a free, holds, then he may be getting up towards that. His age could dictate otherwise like.

As @Weezertron said, the theory of getting significantly more than your ‘worth’ because you’re on a free, is probably valid. That said I’d still doubt we (or anyone else) would put him on Isak/Bruno/Targett type money.

It is, but at the same time, barring an injury to Isak, you’d imagine him to be playing less minutes than he’s been at Everton, even with us having additional games.
