Had we been able to keep hold of Anderson, he still wouldn’t of been starting for us. He’d obviously significantly improve the squad depth of the midfield, but at least this season anyway, that wouldn’t have made a huge difference. We signed Tonali because we made the CL two seasons ago. Would we have won the league cup without him? Debatable. Whilst you’re right in that in the short-term, the ECL offers the quickest route to another trophy, it doesn’t boost our long term prospects for continually winning trophies the way CL does.
