They can seek all they want, but once a player is in the last year of his contract, you don’t hold the cards. Especially if you’re in a shit financial position.
-
Was Gordon on anyone’s wish list? Sometimes links come up and then the more you think about it, the more you think it makes sense.
-
I rate him. Others don’t. That’s fine, cos it’s obviously subjective. But there’s a difference in not rating him, and labelling him a ‘crock’ because you don’t rate him.
-
He was fit 38 times last season…
-
How does that relate to whether he is a ‘crock’?
-
Sssh. You can’t shoot down folks pre-conceived opinions of a player with facts…
-
38 appearances last season doesn’t suggest ‘crock’ to me.
-
Last year of his contract. They’ll have to take whatever they can get given their financial situation.
-
Excited by this. Would give us a different dimension to what we have. Reckon Eddie could work wonders with his attributes.
-
No, and I don’t suspect there will be unless he suffers some kind of setback.
-
All of that could well be true, and it may be how it turns out for them next year. But there’s no way it’s guaranteed. Spurs were predicted to be a shambles this time last year on here after selling Kane. Finished 5th.
-
I’d love to think you’re right. Just not sure how anyone can speak with conviction either way?
-
I agree with everything there, apart from the bit about it being overstated how bad his kicking is. It’s terrible. The worst in the league. He’s mid-table in the pass completion stats because he knows this and, quite rightly, limits himself to simple 15 yard passes or hoofs. But that’s OK. All other aspects of his game are excellent. To improve on him at this moment in time would require spending a fortune, or pulling an absolute rabbit out the back scouting-wise.
-
Harsh assessment IMO. He never displayed anything like this level of ability in his (admittedly extremely limited) appearances for Man City. Whether that development has come from just being allowed to play and being given a level of trust/confidence he never had before, is possible, but his game has clearly developed significantly this last season.
-
There’s issues there obviously, but they’d just point to Cole Palmer to refute the zero player development argument.
-
Be interesting to know Chelsea fans thoughts on him. If was us he’d turned down there’d definitely be a few with the attitude of ‘if he didn’t want to sign last season he can fuck off’. His obvious quality is probably enough to outweigh that attitude though.
-
Exactly. They finished sixth last season. Presumably they’ll be able to chuck more money at it again this season. Hardly unreasonable to hold the view that they’ll be back in the CL again after this coming season.

If Pope was good with his feet he’d probably be in the top 20 keepers in the world.

Don’t use it personally so not 100% sure of the timeliness, but I think if you use the official club option of syncing fixtures to your phone calendar, they should update automatically when changed. Also the fixture thread in here is normally updated pretty sharpish

First game back at home to Spurs? You know what to do @Heron

I worry for you against Austria, who I rate. That said I think it’s helpful playing Poland first (who are shite). Convincing win might get confidence up.
