If you’ve ever heard him speak, he’s too much of a pro to do that.
-
Because the player wants to join (100%), and when negotiations go this deep they very rarely fall apart.
-
For what it’s worth (and I know I’m opening myself up for pelters if it doesn’t happen 😂), I’ve just spoken to one of my usual contacts and he’s still adamant that Guehi will sign this week, regardless of being cup tied. I must admit though, I’m starting to doubt it will happen personally, but confidence is still high 🤷♂️ Don’t shoot the messenger, eh 😁
-
And how exactly do you know that?
-
Precisely… he’s their player. As far as Palace are concerned we might get knocked out of the cup tomorrow and they would have left a star player out for no reason. Still convinced this is happening. It’s just being played out in a ridiculous manner.
-
Just log off mate. You’re embarrassing yourself.
-
I understand your point, I just think it’s really disrespectful to Murphy and Miggy to suggest that we “carry them”. They’ve both contributed heavily to our two best seasons in recent memory. Can we do better? Yes. Do they deserve the level of disrespect they get? Not in my opinion.
-
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a solid indication (if he plays) that Palace are fucking us around again, but all I’m saying is we don’t buy players worrying whether they might miss a few games. Anyway, he might not play.
-
Yes, but my point is the club say over and over again that every decision they make is about the long term. I don’t think it’ll make much difference in their thinking.
-
Well, it is though isn’t it? We’re buying him for 5+ years. The early part of the competition he probably wouldn’t start in anyway. IF (and it’s still and if), he’s cup tied, he’ll max miss a Quarter, Semi and Final, and by that time Botman and Lascelles will be back in the squad. I just don’t think it’s that important.
-
As I said this morning, I don't think whether he plays tonight or not holds any importance in the grand scheme of things. He's the player we want for the long term... we're not going to walk away because he might miss a few games.
-
Again, not at NUFC. But I guess there's no reason Palace can't be different on that front.
-
Fair enough. Not at NUFC (it's 2 hours before here), but perhaps at other clubs.
-
Why would any player be at Selhurst Park yet?
-
Wasn't the goal vs Bournemouth from the RW like?
-
I understand that, but why do you feel the need to beat Eddie with that stick? Apart from venting for the sake of venting.
-
That's not what I'm referring to. I'm referring to whether it's a success or not to keep Bruno, Isak, and Gordon etc together. And of course, that, in isolation IS a success.
-
I don't understand your viewpoint there at all. Eddie saying that it's a success that we've kept the squad together is 100% factually true, isn't it? Weren't we all worried a few months ago that Bruno, Isak and Gordon could be gone? So from that point of view it HAS been a success. Obviously from an incoming POV it hasn't as yet, but that's not what he's saying there is it.
-
Would you not say it's a success?
-
As he has been for about 2.5 weeks.
-
As I said yesterday, everything I’ve heard from behind the scenes suggest that Eddie and Mitchell’s relationship is good… it’s good to hear Eddie publicly saying that today, and saying that the backing from above has been good.
-
Not convinced being cup tied would make any particular difference to the deal to be honest. We’ll be thinking long term, not just about a potential 5 games missed.
-
I never said that at all like. That’s been fabricated from the snippet of info I shared from an agent that said we had financial reasons to get the deal done before the start of the season, and said it had something to do with “a Chelsea clause”. No idea on details further than that.
