100% this. -
Think realistically we all expected a tough start to the season. Last night was a disappointment but looking at the 3 league games prior, they were very tight and if those fine margins had gone our way we may have been sitting on 4 points rather than 1 and feeling quite good. I'm still optimistic that our form will gradually improve as we get our key players coming back into the side and hit a run of more friendly fixtures.

I didn't think he was THAT bad last night like. Put in a few good crosses, one of which Joselu may convert on a different day. He needs to improve on this season's showing but I don't think last night was such a bad performance.

Not sure what the alternative could be, hopefully if Shelvey is back we can do more on the break. In a way though I did find something Bellamy said last night quite interesting. If you're setting your team up not to attack at all, sitting deep and soaking up pressure, then how does that affect them when you ask them to go into the next game on the front foot and attack a team. Maybe you get a continuity problem there. Just a thought.

Spot on howey. I would also of said that Newcastle get 30,000 plus attendances than Bournemouth and Huddersfield as well which is around 20m a season extra in ticket revenue Interesting Good to read the rough stats/figures regarding attendance/income. I've been too lazy to work it out myself and have as a result felt like low attendances wouldn't be impactful enough to cause Ashley any lack of sleep. But if your calculation is correct that is quite significant. Guess we both know people aren't going to stop attending though, and in a way I can't blame them. Suspect you may feel differently though

With Lejeune out I think a partnership of Lascelles and Fernandez (with Dummett & Yedlin either side) will see our defensive solidity of last season return. We're still okay in that department. Going forward is a concern, but even last season creating chances wasn't the problem, it was Gayle & Joselu's inability to finish them. Getting Shelvey back makes us far more competent in terms of creating chances. Joselu looks much improved which is good, as him & Rondon will be critical. Dam! I cant resist! Critical to what exactly? Coming 17th and keeping Ashley and sports direct on the gravy train. Last season I would of agreed and was desperate to stay up as I stupidly thought we could build. That boat has long gone. I'd argue if relegation meant the start of Ashley leaving it's better than staying up in this zombie state. That's how serious things are now. I've had a belly full of Ashley and a belly full of shite early cup exits Fair enough man, I see where you're coming from and respect your position, I just really don't want to see us go down and feel unconvinced of the idea that relegation spells the end of Ashley. Think about dat play-off final money, he'll be rubbing his hands at that.

Pretty sure the turnstiles close around 20 minutes after kickoff...

Agree Definitely. I get his hands are tied and we are shopping in the bargain bin but best off spending nothing than paying 5m for Joselu, 9m on muto, 5 manquillo etc An agreeable statement on paper, but Rafa couldn't work with two of them, and the other had a release clause activated and seemingly wanted to move, so there's not much we could have done other than look for the best replacements possible with the limited resources we had. Ashley's shortcoming, at the end of the day.

Couldn't finish like Rondon did tonight (he could, but still)

Can't come soon enough - in all comps. We can't blame refereeing decisions entirely of course, but we've been on the wrong end of some dreadful decisions already so early into the season, what definitely seems like more than others, too. -
Not sure, he's always looking to make something happen imo. Some nice passes in the final 3rd and a willingness to get in behind/beat a man. Decent showing. You are probably right. It’s always hard for a striker to shine in the way we play. They just end up running all over without ever getting any real chances to shine or actually attack. Would hate to be a forward for us in this team/system. That much is certainly true. I find it the same with Perez which is why I always air on the side of positivity with him as I think he has a thankless task in this set up for the most part and does a decent job.
