It doesn't need to be, we've won it easily after about 50 minutes and have clearly gone into energy conservation mode. I'm not sure why people expect flat out pressing football 100% of the time. Same folk who would then probably whinge the most about injuries.

What a stunning goal that is, Isak's touch to Gordon, his to Tonali. Just beautiful.
-
That's beautiful.

We've cruised through the half and could have had 3 or 4. Perhaps the Bournemouth result has folk frustrated and out for blood but the whinging and petulance is massively misplaced on today's viewing imo.
-
What
-
Nearly 3, Isak & Murphy looking so sharp.
-
Once we settle down a bit after that goal we will be absolutely fine imo. They give up so much space. The Murph with a trademark finish or two I reckon.
-
We'll still win this easily.

If you had told Swanny in the late 90s that his baccy stained, hot rock singed, Lambrini soaked jumper that he wore when he fingered Melissa in the cut behind the houses would sell for £350, or about half the price of a used Corsa, I wonder what he'd have said.

They're building a tunnel under the stadium out to the north sea to allow for safe passage of Russian spy ships in return for Arsen Zakharyan.

Ah I see, so it's been a gamble for Ipswich rather than an amount they were clear and within the confines of the rules to spend. It's a real shame that for newly promoted teams that level of risk has become perhaps necessary. I suppose to a degree the financial risk has always been present, but now the risk of jeopardising future seasons with a points deduction too. It's quite a mess.
-
Is this necessarily true though? I know next to nothing about the intricacies of PSR and plan to keep it that way for cleanliness of mind, however Ipswich who had rose from league one managed to spend £125 million this season without any player sales, so is there not potentially a scenario where Sunderland would be able to spend a similar amount, meaning more than most, including us?

Can understand the reticence though, we literally can't afford to get a transfer wrong, most teams can't tbf. Edit: What @ponsaelius said.

Tonali looking a couple of levels above everyone else in black and white today. What a ridiculous player. -

Statue for Semenyo outside the Stadium of Light if he scores. One of their own. -
Our dear neighbours on Wearside will be getting a statue of Diallo soon. Probably the best player to play for them in 20 years to be fair.
-
Aye he should probably prevent both goals imo.

Zirkzee has been decent.

Quality clearance from Antony, bless him.
-
Should be about 5-0

I love where we are currently positioned at the moment, taking points and places off the big clubs whilst not spending disproportionately and residing firmly outside of the cartel. There was a time where I was convinced we would never win a trophy in my lifetime, now I believe it can happen within our current environment without the need for radical upheaval, even if the window of opportunity is potentially short and imminent. Given the choice, I would take a single league cup win, weep tears of joy at the final whistle and remain at an evolving, more polished but preserved St James' Park; forgoing the possible, perhaps inevitable movement towards becoming a cartel club in order to sign the best players and win the major honours consistently. If that's the price then I wouldn't pay it. I fear what becoming a lifeless, soulless club would feel like. It would hurt too much to lose the Newcastle United I love; and whilst we think we could be the exception to the rule, I have doubts about it. When I imagine Newcastle in a new "best in class" stadium, rubbing shoulders with the cartel (being perceived rightly so by other supporters as one of them) and celebrating a 15th trophy with no less vigour than I currently celebrate Gordon or Almiron chasing down an opposition full back and conceding a goal kick, I can already foresee and sense the apathy and aridity I would feel. If the fate of not walking that path in the brokenness of English football is the way of the perennial underdog, hoping and dreaming but mostly not achieving then I accept that fate full-heartedly. The disappointment, the frustration, the hurt, the dreaming, I love those qualities and believe that they sustain the passion, the emotion and the drama which are all too beautifully human. For what it's worth, I don't think I'm right by feeling or thinking this, or any more pious than another, only that my sentimental heart and affection towards this gloriously flawed and perpetually disappointing club has been one of the more prevailing aspects of my life, and I don't think I want to roll the dice in seeing it sterilised in the name of disproportionate spending to attain success. I would love to imagine a version of that eventuality being fully animated and alive, where the essence and spirit of the club remains untouched, but anytime I visit my mind's eye to visualise it, something feels off and hollow about it.

Not for me, I've watched a fair bit of of them this season and have largely been unimpressed with them as a potential title winning outfit.
