Your opinion is your opinion obviously, but maybe not necessarily a widely held one: Point being, not that you're wrong, but that Palace's valuation makes sense.
-
I'd put good money on it that if you polled everyone he'd be at least top 3 and have a very good shout for 1st. Agree on the valuation though, we don't seem to budge a great deal on our valuations and if it means waiting then so be it.

Wonder if Neto coming in at Chelsea will open the door for Madueke.
-
Hmm, intriguing. Hopefully he has a bit of a breakout season somewhere.
-
Loaded Mag had Lee Ryder on last night and it was funny because I reckon he spoke for about 4% of it Actually seems like a nice bloke tbf, as much as we've mocked him over the years
-
What's his story? I feel like we often have a player like this that you've never heard of pop up in pre-season, look promising, and then you inexplicably never hear from them again
-
Yeah. Despite him having around 18 months left on his contract he's just come out of the Euros as arguably the best player in the team that reached the final and were favourites. It's still a lot, but you can totally understand it from Palace's point of view.

Think it's pretty telling that even Chelsea's own fans seem to hate their shenanigans now

I don't see how you've come to the conclusion that foreign players doing poorly at basketcase clubs then doing well afterwards is the counterpoint to PL players also going to basketcase clubs and doing poorly. If you're making that point it should be foreign players going to basketcase clubs and doing well regardless, no? There are no guarantees or hard and fast rules, but it's pretty obvious why Guehi is a different proposition to the players you listed and much more akin to players like VVD, Rice, Jota, Mane, Walker, Stones, who were bought to start and who were proven PL players going to clubs with a clear strategy. There's nothing elaborate about it, being PL experienced is just another one of the important factors you mentioned yourself.
-
I would say it's your post that's a massive oversimplification tbh. All of the players you've listed there were signed as back ups to massive players at Man City and Spurs and/or were going to basketcase football clubs like Man United and Chelsea. Guehi would be starting at a non-basketcase club. If you can get me a list of players that haven't worked out in that context (regulars at Liverpool, Man City, Spurs, Arsenal for example) then I'll say fair play, you have a point.
-
As good as Todibo might be, Guehi is also a known quality (and a high quality at that) in the Premier League with no need for any integration or any increased risk.
-
Thankfully Ben Jacobs is just a posh Graeme Bailey
-
You don't get a 24 year old starting England centre back for £35-£45m in 2024 unless you've exploited a situation like. That just wouldn't happen.
-
There's always a team like that that everyone's fretting over at the start of the season.
-
Pleased we're not throwing daft amounts around for players tbh. I like Guehi but over £50m when he has 2 years left is steep.
-
The idea that they get stick just because they play badly isn't exactly true like. I think it's fairer to say that they maybe gain a reputation for not performing well, then they become an easy target after that almost regardless of how they play or whether they're to blame, until they overcome it. Then for some it sticks and that's it, forever. Longstaff didn't perform well last season (output notwithstanding), but it definitely applies with Miggy at times and, I think that 100% applies to Dan Burn last season. You'd think he was having 3 Bramble moments a match the way some people went on. We all know what our fans are like for scapegoating.
-
Same with our Anthony Gordon posts then? Means nothing?
-
Yes, I'm citing the video Downie put out last night where he said his feeling was that this would get wrapped up quickly.
-
FWIW, I work in web content in a marketing department and it's perfectly rational - I'm not an expert or anything, but if you're going to tweet something out, you'll probably make sure what you put out isn't going to age like warm sick.
-
If you post about your player then on the same day or even the next day there's a bid accepted for them to go to another club, you don't think that would make them look daft?
-
Romano (citing Edwards), Downie, Edwards have all said as part of their reports that there's either confidence at our end that the deal will get wrapped up quickly, or that their intution is that our bid will be accepted quickly.
-
-
I don't believe you. Do you still have any expectation for the rest of today that we'll hear about a bid being accepted?
-
Fucks sake, another Man United thread
-
Depends who you're asking. My gut feeling is that a football club of Palace's stature wouldn't put engagement over reputational damage.
