Hadn't realised he was only 77 as well. I was expecting him to be at least 10 years older.
-
You seem to keep putting words in his mouth tbh.

Aye that's why I said for me

"My stomach tells you" is a nice way of saying you're talking shit

Motson was a poor commentator towards the end of his career, but he was THE voice in the '90s for me and I thought he was great.

If this posts' anything to go by, I'm sure the feeling was mutual

It's pretty mild football based schadenfreude

Agree with a lot of points there. Re Disney etc, I've made this point before, but if we're supposed to put Newcastle United, the club we've supported our whole lives on equal footing with brands like Disney, Uber, EA in terms of its meaning to us, then that tells its own story about what social and cultural institutions are increasingly viewed as. They're not supposed to be a brand, they're supposed to mean something more than that. They're supposed to be local cultural and social institutions that serve the community without it being just as a means to write off some tax. The over riding point for me is that it's become nigh on impossible to point out something you don't like without someone going 'well what about...?' because the tentacles of capitalism and these investment funds are everywhere and unavoidable. There's not a brand out there that isn't guilty of something. Pointing out that you don't like that situation - where it's impossible to make an ethical individual consumer choice, let alone a collective choice - and that you'd rather it wasn't that way doesn't make you a hypocrite, it means that maybe pointing the finger at each other at all, whether it's as accuser or as hypocrite, isn't a solution.

You always do that like Fair enough, your choice.

Alright then, so if we turn it the other way around. If I've been ignorant to something, can you recommend any historic events I look into where change has been affected and public awareness has been raised by someone writing a letter to the people in power?
-
Writing to the people in power happens all the time, you don't hear about it because it does absolutely nothing in terms of raising public awareness. We're talking about the subject at all because the letter's going to Howe rather than the people in power. If you think we or anyone else would be talking about it if that letter went to their MP, or the Premier League or the UK Government, that's your choice but I'd recommend looking into how civil rights movements have affected change and raised public awareness throughout history.
-
Every day's a school day! I don't agree with it, but I'll accept it.
-
When has writing a letter to the people in power changed or raised awareness of anything? Surely you can see that although Howe is obviously powerless, it raises a lot more public awareness by giving a letter to him than say the UK Government?

Crying, journalist, news. I don't see any of those things tbh.
-
No you wouldn't.

I must have been imagining things in his post-match podcasts when he refers to himself as a fan and regularly brings up when he had a season ticket. If he was news journalist I'd take his point, even if labelling this 'news' shows you what he and many journalists think of themselves - but he's reporting on sport. He's definitely a journalist in the sense that he self-aggrandises over the importance of what he reports on, like. Going on like reporting on what is essentially gossip about a football team falls under some kind of important journalistic ethical code TO REPORT ON THE TRUTH GODDAMMIT! In his and many journalists' minds they're following in the footsteps of Daphne Caruana Galizia or more typically Woodward and Bernstein, despite reporting on what is essentially a distraction from all that.

'Sunderland till I die'

I've said it before, Hope doing our bidding against Bruce masked the fact that he's a bit of a slimey arsehole imo.

I've seen Murphy have a really good 20 or so minutes vs a tired Ashley Young vs Villa and against 10 men Fulham, and that's it.
-
Don't see how you'd see he can't play at any level like, that's mad. Even then, less so than Murphy? I thought he looked okay at the back end of last season tbh. Pressed well, scored and assisted at both RW and LW.
-
Tbf, I've never really understood why he's always, always behind Jacob Murphy in the pecking order. He's lost a yard of pace and I know Murphy's a bit of a cheerleader, but Fraser's a much better player.
