Can honestly say that my dislike for Barton didn't change while he was here like. Too many confused him saying naughty words about Mike Ashley with his performances on the pitch imo - all of which amounted to a good end of the 09/10 season and a good first half of the 10/11 season where he had the easiest job in football - putting crosses in for prime Andy Carroll. Saying that, my dislike for Gordon is 100% for his on pitch antics and is obviously nothing compared to the real world reasons for disliking Barton or Bowyer.

I get what you're saying like. Liverpool fans hated him for going to Man City, at Man City unless there for nearer a decade you're more of a cog in the machine, and likewise Chelsea. Not Sterling's fault that he was never at lower ranking club that would have idolised him though.

It's baffling like. Chelsea trying to get him for £50m in the summer was crazy enough, Everton turning them down was even weirder. There's obviously a lot of people within football that rate him highly then.

I don't rate him or anything, but I wouldn't put too much stock into whether he can or can't get into the starting XI or not, Miggy and Schar regularly couldn't get in our team under Bruce and lest we forget the last player we signed from Everton who couldn't get into their starting XI. I take your point that for the money spent it happens less often to sign players for the bench, I don't think that's necessarily the case with Gordon either, but players are definitely signed specifically for the bench like.

Of course you do, there are countless examples of players being signed for that very purpose like.

Happens all the time in cinemas now like. Not so much the independent ones, but if you go to The Gate you'll quite often see people on their phones throughout, or being unable to keep their stupid mouths closed.

I'd be all for getting a mobile signal in there and leaving it at that, with no wi-fi. The less 'fan experience' bullshit that's at St James', the better. I know others will disagree but we have enough consumerism attached to football, the crowd having the mindset that they're there to predominantly consume and be entertained rather than engage is to the detriment of the atmosphere. That mindset is already instilled in all of us to a certain extent anyway and with some more than others, so we don't need to hand them the keys to making things worse by encouraging the idea that the match is just something that's just going on in the background while they're on their phones. Look at most gigs now, they're an absolute joke.
