The Europeometer™ (2024/25) - NUFC Qualify for Conference League (at least)
Coffee_Johnny replied to Rich's topic in Football
Well, we know where we finished. Here's the preseason prediction of what we would most likely need to finish 6th, and where (given relative difficulty of the games across the season) where we should expect to pick up the points. Prediction was out by one. Chelsea managed 63 points. So the 62 wouldn't have been enough. For what it is worth, the 60 point we accrued for 7th is higher than the average for 7th (57.5 points). Also, over the last three months we have achieved a total of 2.4 points more than usually 'required' for sixth. Whereas the 13 games between December and February killed us. We accrued 6.1pts less than required. -

Anyone know whether TNT or Sky are the best bet for skipping to updates from other games (I.e. ours). -
I’d be pretty chuffed if true. Gives the right kind of message. Top player will only get better.
-
Great to watch that. Solano still my favourite ever player.

It’s incredible really, in the season we notch our biggest ever away victory, we do so badly in the rest! -
Me too! Not the physics bit!

Bumped into him a few times when the club were training at Maiden Castle (once coming out of the shower!). Chatted on a couple of occasions, not exactly friendly but was on nodding terms. Saw him at Northenden Golf Club recently, could have joined the company he was in, as knew one of the lads. Found myself totally blanking him. You just don’t diss King Kev.

Jeez! I sincerely hope Longstaff doesn’t read this thread. Don’t need to look further for why someone may be overly self-critical and under confident.

I am concerned that the expected revenue from ECL, may be needed to balance books for purchases. Not certain it’s the case but would be a set back to further progression in the short term at least. -

Not sure we should be ahead of them. Played three times, won one, lost two (well a draw really). They’ve done phenomenally well recently and deserve to be where they are. Plus they consistently have a strong bench. Peppered with players we couldn’t afford. -
I can see the point being made, but only in the sense that most strikers are anonymous (if you just follow the ball) most of the time. Most runs aren’t found, a fair bit of play is deliberately to pull defenders out of the way to enable others to attack, most of the time they don’t have the ball. What we need is a player who performs all of the forward functions well. And we are lucky enough to have one of the best. Ideally, you want someone who complements their style can replace them without a fall off in ability and, which is my only gripe re Wilson, you can rely on being available most of the time.

Manchester United 3-2 Newcastle United (15/05/24) | Reaction: pg 53

I think it is just the little moments. The right pass that is just not executed quite right, too hard, too soft, too close to an opponent. Or not seen when it is one. Don’t want to join in with the digging out of certain players. We know where we need to improve the choices available. On the plus side, the very fact that we saw a lot of the above last night means that we found ourselves in many good positions to punish them. Probably created more opportunities there than we pretty much ever have. We just need a few players who will/can provide that small percentage extra craft which increases the probability of decent performances turning into wins. Plus there is no place for the kind of defensive errors we made in a side with ambitions to be consistently top six. -
I just don’t think he got the ball enough first half. Always seems to be three players around him or blocking the route to him. Probably done their homework.

I don’t think you can fault the effort. Just lacking a bit of guile/class/craft/skill, call it what you will, but we all know top top players find the pass, see the space, produce a moment of magic, particularly in big games. Too many not quite on it tonight and two or three just don’t quite have it. -

Well think we were unfortunate not to get anything out of that. Draw would have been a fair result. -
