  1. I was an absolute legend, in my own mind. Best position: left back in the changing room. Played against Gazza and taught him everything he knows—about coping with life. Joking aside, played at a decent level as a boy but I would have been far better if I played to my physical strengths: tall athletic/good engine but wanted to be a dribbler/winger or playmaker type. Suspect I would have stood out more, and made a much better, central defender.
  2. Wait until Miggy’s sold, the vacuum will create some kind of nuclear implosion! (oh! Forgot about other local targets)
  3. Best season for was in Championship and making us sing that song all night: 12 goals, plenty of involvement critical to promotion and, therefore, all that came next.
  4. Good luck young man. Plenty of players have taken a setback like this and gone on to thrive. Hope he’s one of them.
  5. Farewell sweet prince. 190 ish games 20 broken corner flags… . Key to winning Championship trophy. Good player for us and great personality to have around the place.

    Paul Dummett

150 odd PL appearances; 45 in Championship winning season. 12 seasons in total. Plenty of meaningful contributions and a great asset for a long time. Farewell sweet prince. Hope you tag on a couple of seasons additional playing time and have plenty of fun in the twilight years.
  7. Bloody Man Utd. Their lowest ever PL finish, we eventually finish above them, then they go and win the FA Cup and secure European football; at our expense to boot. Is your name Kevin @Froggy and do you have a full length sheepskin jacket.

    Next season

He’s shown he’s capable. Don’t think he’s at the point where it is his shirt to lose, but imagine he will play a significant number of games.
  9. 😂 premature but funny and I’m sure you could weave in slow Manc bastard if it doesn’t come to pass.
  10. Just a joy to watch. That combination vision, touch, technical skill and passion. What a player, what a man.

    Joe Willock

I know ‘availability’ is in the forefront of everyone’s mind after last season. However when he is fully fit, I think Joe is a better player than he was when he played for Arsenal and has nothing to prove as far as I’m concerned. He has everything you need capability wise to be an absolutely top drawer midfielder. He also seems a top man to have in your team. He turns 25 this year and the next two seasons or three seasons could/should be the peak of his career.
  12. Oh dear. No. 2 post hasn’t benefited from ‘helpful’ feedback.
  13. Well if they have their head screwed on there are numerous examples of that not being the rewarding strategy.

The term was Parish Priests, allegedly.
  15. Thought I would check the cost of the 1995-96 squads (everyone 10+ appearances) NUFC vs MUFC. Their transfer fees totalled £17.28m for 16 players. 6 of the 16 came up through the youth teams. Only two players were bought in the previous two years (May and Cole). Our transfer fees totalled £34.1m for 16 players. 3 of the 16 came up through the youth teams. Ten of the players were bought in the previous two years (Asprilla and Batty mid way in 1996). We’ve heard/thought loads about what made the difference that season. Perhaps having a settled team who were used to playing together (not just the winning habit) was important too.
  16. You might if the numbers in the lower offer still set you up for life. A life that would be likely to be happier if you were a key part of a good team, surrounded by people you got on with, in a great atmosphere, with everyone pulling in the same direction.
  17. Is that true? Genuine question. I think that most of Man Utd’s title winning side 1995-96 were home grown. Whereas our team that season were mainly bought in.
  18. I really don’t think the only consideration a player has is how much the contract is worth. It obviously makes a difference but suspect some of that is how valued it makes them feel. It is a pretty poor view of humanity to imagine everybody, particularly those who are never going to be strapped for cash, is so mercenary/striving solely for money.
  19. I’m assuming you don’t know anything about Tosin as a person. So you are basically saying that you believe that these cream of the cream, driven and talented young sportsmen—who are all going to have a comfortable life financially because the rewards available in their sport—have no ambition or desire to make a difference, to be needed, and be part of a team in which they feel they can thrive. That nothing matters but the bottomline? Do you honestly think that?
  20. Great article, in the New York Times no less (get us…). https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5495236/2024/05/21/england-anthony-gordon-newcastle/

  22. Woke up feeling really excited about this transfer window. Whilst lots of disappointment last season, none of which is worth rehashing, I do think a potential positive outcome is the glaring necessity to stretch the PSR limits, move out the nonessential, unreliable, or past peak players, and give ourselves a chance of building on the improvements made in the last 2.5 seasons. I hope we do get some business done early, including outgoings and perhaps save an unexpected big signing until the 11th hour.
  23. Shame on you! Disrespecting a famous Colonel.
  24. I’m pleased he’s had a decent season. 14 starts, 27 sub appearances, 8 goals 3 assists. Helped get his side promoted. Must have felt much more rewarding than stagnating here. I think he’ll be an asset in PL, experience and confidence wise. Wonder if they will spend a couple of million to keep him.
