Newcastle United will give serious consideration to letting Alexander Isak sign for Liverpool if they receive a bid of £130m on deadline day. In a rapidly shifting situation, Telegraph Sport understands that majority stakeholders Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund are, for the first time, willing to cash in on their star player as long as the money is good enough. Newcastle are waiting for Liverpool, who had a £110m offer rejected almost a month ago, to return with a second bid. They will make a final decision on Isak’s future based on whether they feel the size of the fee is too good to turn down. It is still far from certain that Isak will be a Liverpool player when the window shuts, but having insisted all summer that the asking price is £150m, the lowering of the price at which they would be willing to consider a move feels significant. Crucially, it is also thought the deal would not be contingent on Newcastle being able to sign a replacement. Newcastle’s recruitment team do not believe it is still realistic to expect Brentford to sell Yoane Wissa and have similar feelings about Wolverhampton Wanderers’ desire to hold on to Jorgen Strand Larsen. That raises the prospect that, even if the Sweden international is not sold on deadline day, he will once again agitate to leave in January. If Isak stays, Newcastle still intend to offer him a new contract with a release clause that will only become active in the summer of 2026.
