All those clubs had a track record of spending decent sized money on players. We didn't, we'd spent god knows how long until we broke our transfer record on Almiron, and years of scrimping. We blow our whole budget on one signing who plays like Harvey Price with Dwight Yorke's boots on.

Hard to imagine he'd still be in a job at Sheffield Wednesday 18months on from us throwing him a bone. Would have likely been sacked by now you'd think. Walked out of Hull, couldn't get a PL job, couldn't take Villa up and sacked, hired by mid-table Championship. Hard to think he'd get a job after hypothetically being sacked from Sheff Wed. His ego and salary expectation wouldn't let him stoop as low as League 1/low end Championship. Now we've hired him, we haven't just given him another chance to manage in PL, and contract/pay off that comes with, he'll no doubt get another stab at a Championship club after managing PL again - when in actual fact he was likely on the brink of being set to pasture by Sheff Wed.

Don't understand how he could have ever been valued so high, almost seems like there some dodgy dealing behind it with the agent. Rafa was said to have turned him down wasn't he? So almost seems the club we're hell-bent on doing a deal for him, and Hoffenheim saw the money signs in their eyes when we came calling again. We'd never come close to spending that sort of fee on anyone under Ashley, never even rumoured of, almost felt like it came out of nowhere as well. Could accept him and his failings more if he was brought in for a £10M squad signing like Muto/Joselu, and mainly used from the bench, but £40M and a season of him not scoring up front, now the persistent shoehorning him out wide is mental.

Good to see us pressing and getting higher up the pitch tonight

To be fair Carroll should have buried both of his chances Agree, but the way we play there are such fine margins at either ends. We have to have more about us going forward if we're relying likes of Ritchie, Murphy, Yedlin, Dummett even Clark not making at least one glaring cock up a game. We are 17th in PL for expected goals. We need to score every good opportunity we create, that's not sustainable. We're over reliant on opponents mistakes and blind luck, essentially penalties and that farce away at Spurs last minute. This can be seen as Wilson's goals drying up. That's no fault of his own. Once or twice in the last 5/6 games have we got in behind an opposition defence. When was the last one-one-one through on goal chance we had, or ball played back from byline cross. Teams around us in the league are creating these chances every game.
-
What chances is he actually on about? Can't remember Leno pulling off any saves. Carroll had his chance at far post he missed, but he's making it sound like we've opened Arsenal up left, right and centre. "shift of getting higher up the pitch, they're getting used to it" Bloke talks some shit like. Doesn't take 18months to do that, and the way he's saying it as if we're not even finished yet. How long is it taking him? Unless it was his plan all along since he's been here was for us to play like twats sitting off likes of Newport County, West Brom at home and Brentford. He's had us all fooled - operation Brucenpress complete before months out.

Sheffield United vs Newcastle United - 12/1/21 - 6pm (Live on Sky)

Would start Carroll on tonight’s showing. Doubt he’ll be recovered from tonight’s excursions though, although Bruce has never been bothered running players into ground before mind. No doubt it’ll be a slight variation to the same, offering us some fresh garbage. Back five, Joe, Hendrick, Shelvey, Hayden with Wilson miles from any other fucker. -
That first line is even worse at the moment when there’s no difference whether you’re home or away at the moment. Didn't even think of that what with no fans! But it's such an archaic redundant statement. Even with fans, how much of a disadvantage is playing away from home these days. He's making out to be some insurmountable challenge that has been sprung upon him at the last second, as to be playing at the f***ing Emirates. Fed up of hearing it. It's a challenge because Arsenal, despite being the worst they've been in decades are still worlds better than us. It'll be the same Tuesday night, 'to come here, always a challenge'... Everything is a pissing challenge Steve, just seems he's the only arsehole that cannot rise to any of them
-
The 'when yur come here' bollocks pisses me off. It's always the same from him whenever we play any of those traditional big six, but also now hearing it seemingly every week, whether it's home against a 'big side' or away against a 'tough side'. We're in the same league as them ffs. Not long ago he was lauding it up how we were above them in the league. Such a defeatist attitude.

Elliot Anderson (now playing for Nottingham Forest)
Abra Dubravka replied to joeyt's topic in Football
Could tell it was his first game for us. Hasn't had the technique, vision, energy or ambition drained from him yet by playing for the Steves. -
LLWWLDLLDLL Must win against Sheff U, then back to Arsenal. Leeds and Everton can't expect us to do anything in, then must win against Palace before Southampton, Chelsea, Man U, Wolves. In all sorts of bother if we can't get a win against both Sheff U and Palace from those fixtures, but just can't see it. Form and performances are dire as is, even throwing in a draw or win Tuesday we're looking fucked. Need to seriously strengthen this window, not just a couple of loans in. But just what's the point with this dosser in charge.

Inevitable Tierney was getting in behind us like that, been waiting all night. Surprised it took that long. Murphy totally clueless, head in the clouds -

Won't do anything to change how we set up now, will keep the 5 still - not that there is much he could do... -

Hasn't been that bad second half, but can't remember Leno making a save or us creating anything clear cut. -

We're there for the taking if Arsenal can isolate our full backs a bit more, especially Tierney against him Murphy -

Wouldn't been opposed to Carroll starting against Sheff U from this showing so far. Need to ditch the 5 at the back mind, and get Wilson in near him. -

Been thinking that for years, never understood the buzz about him. Even that season when he was scoring all the free kicks 3/4 year ago, he'd do nothing for rest of game at all. -

Ritchie being Matt Ritchie less than a minute being on the pitch.
