Liverpool not had a shot on target

Fraser Forster starting - completely forgot he existed!

August 2019 that, on back of us being a bag of shit two games in under Bruce - before Spurs away game! Nothing changed 18months on.

Most accurate punditry I've seen on Bruce... 4mins in, "a lot of clichés with Steve Bruce"
-
Sad fact is Carroll is the best forward suited to Bruceball Would respect Bruce more if he woke up and stopped trying to half arse it with Wilson and shelling balls up to him constantly. Evans/Fofana won't have an easier game this season.

There was a cross from the right in the first half that Joe just about got on the end of... moments before you can hear the Steve's screaming "Get in the box Joe, Get in the box Joe" as he's just loafing up to the edge of the box. This sort of thing must come from the lack of coaching, pattern of play and how to attack. Other teams you can see it's second nature with players what they need to do, and where they need to be. With Leeds, you can see it's second nature that players are running forward constantly into space, and getting in the box - that obviously comes from coaching. With us everything seems so disjointed, off the cuff and reliant on players' individual moments to create anything.

Gary Monk called him lazy when he was at Swansea. Remember him just standing on the edge of the box in one of their cup games against Oxford, he does nothing and they score. Fans turned on him then, probably just before he turned up here. Looked different class that season in the Championship, but doesn’t have the mobility or seemingly heart to cut it in the PL.

No chance Willems will play for us again. Don’t think there’s a chance in hell the board are going to sanction another LB brought in. They’ve spun led their load on Lewis, so that’s are lot for a while now. Bruce is never going to push for another LB, even if he wanted one.

Got that impression with his post match against Southampton. Just total dismay at how bad the side is now. Wouldn't hold it against him leaving at all. I'd take a guess that Lejeune pushed for a loan move, rather than spend another season with Bruce.

That's why it amazes me people think we're safe, reading that lot with our form and our manager at the helm we bloody aren't. Sheff United are down, we're better defensively than Fulham and WBA, but we simply don't score or create enough to win enough games for us to be truly safe. Even last season, we completely ran out of steam. Fortunately we picked up enough points not to ever get sucked into anything, but had no faith that this side has any character or balls in it to win any sort of 'must win game' that a relegation battle brings. -

1 win in 7, next 7 games; Arsenal (A) FA CUP, Sheff U (A), Arsenal (A), Leeds (H), Everton (A), Palace (H), Southampton (H) Don't expect anything out of either Arsenal games, nor Leeds, Everton - or even Southampton. -
Played some good stuff away at Bournemouth last season. Watching goals being scored against Morecambe was fun too.

Seems to swing either way with Lampard and Chelsea every couple of weeks, 1 win in 8 doesn't look good though. Their downturn has coincided with a handful of teams kicking on again though, so the table doesn't look good on him. Whenever I've seen them I've always thought they look better when playing Giroud.

Maddison cost double Murphy and was never going to end up with us. Murphy needs to play in his team because he has mobility. At least tries to be positive, which you can’t say about many in the team. He will try to do something other than pass the ball backwards, often making good runs in behind that his teammates never see.... He's preferable to a moron like Hendrick playing wide. He isn't that good though, certainly nothing to worry about for PL defences on a regular basis - never has been, and likely never will. I bet there are dozens of Championship wingers that you could stick in the side that will try and be positive with the ball, doesn't mean they'll be any good at doing so. How well did he get on with his loan spells WBA, and Sheff Wed?

Out of their whole match day squad I'd say only Wilson gets in their squad on the bench, and Darlow/Dubs over their sub keeper. Whereas every player on their bench (baring thier GK) would walk into our side today. Quality is night and day between us and so many sides in this league now. When you are handing out contracts to the likes of Shelvey, Ritchie and Carroll, then what do you expect? It all comes down to Bruce's acceptance of NUFC being a lower level club. You could try to shift the blame onto Ashley, but he's not a Geordie and never pretended to be one. Ashley is ultimately to blame, although the immediate fault lies at Bruce. He's failing to make the best from what he's got, that's all you can be judged on until Ashley goes. There are just so many more clubs being run better than us. Countless teams have come into the league in been able to push on, and leave us behind now. We're a joke from top to bottom, whether it be recruitment, training ground, youth prospects, investment in the squad, contracts being handed out, to player performances and football played. Bruce is doing exactly how many expected he would the day he was given the job - from the negative playing style to the clichéd sound bites. It's what he's done for years now. No other PL club in 2018 would have ever considered him a viable manager for them. No chance he wouldn't have been sacked by Sheff Wed by now Ashley's is responsible as the owner, but as I said, he doesn't give a s*** about us as he's not one of us. Newcastle is just an asset as far as he's concerned. Bruce is the supposed Geordie who ( ha ha) loves the club. He loves the club so much he's happy to be part of the survive relegation dream. To me, any credit he carried as to being a Geordie is meaningless by the fact he managed Sunderland. (That didn't sit right with me at all, and still doesn't, but there are bigger issues at hand - namely just him being the abject failure that Steve Bruce is.) It would have been a same situation when he was appointed Villa manager what with managing Birmingham before, and likewise with the Sheffield clubs. Didn't he have the opportunity years ago to manage us, or is that myth? If it was, any Geordie that professes even a fondness for the club would jump at the chance. Bruce doesn't love the club, Bruce loves the fact he's been thrown a bone managing in the PL again. -
Rafa must have only elevated him to the side out of necessity surely. Merino was never replaced, and obviously not enough funds to go round the and fix the entire squad. CM was always threadbare so makes sense that Longstaff came into the start out of nowhere really at pretty late age really 21/22 That being said, with some actual coaching and playing in a side that knew what they we're doing he didn't look out of his depth.

Aye, their football is direct and not easy on the eye, but there is something genuine about them. Granted they are direct, and Barnes is a shithouse, but there's no shame in that with being effective in doing what Dyche sets them out to do. They all work hard, and can still keep the ball and move it better than us. At least Dyche is getting them to perform as more than the sum of their parts.

Just feel more like a neutral football fan these days. I get no enjoyment watching Newcastle any more. Never have been so nonplussed to us scoring late in the game as today. Years before there would be a genuine belief that we could put pressure on and push on for an equaliser. Only watched last half hour of Brighton Wolves last night, but got more enjoyment watching that than any Newcastle game in recent memory. Now with Chelsea City, theres a thought of 'this could be good/entertaining' whereas watching Newcastle these days just sucks the life out of you

Bruce may as well have started the donkey. Not once did Wilson get played in behind Leicester's defence, or get any sort of service. Bound to be one of the easiest games Fofana and Evans are going to have this season

Nowhere near PL standard, don't even think he was the best Murphy in that Norwich side was he? And cost a fair sum from a pitiful budget that summer What are scouts were thinking watching him play when Maddison was playing for Norwich at the time

Hopefully Allardyce is watching and thinks he's still got it. That's the best we can hope from that happening
