[FAC 4R] Aston Villa vs. Newcastle United: 14/02/26 @ 1745 (BBC/TNT)

Only two all premier league games in the round... Honestly we are cursed -
Yeah it's hard to know what tuchels plans are with so few games.. is he still looking or does he know his preferred 11? I guess the two friendlies in march might be the decider but at the same time Rashford has only scored 2 league goals and his form dipped since November. I hope Gordon gets in for both him and ourselves as it might be beneficial for both

Who has stepped in his place?

Jamaal Lascelles (now playing for League One Leicester City)

Simply can't get up to speed to the level Howe requires. Same as Lewis hall last year when he first started -

Haha Ryder used Asprilla the most unique player in the world to try and make a point about our transfer strategy. -
Bad game but from where I was sitting in the leazes east corner you could see him talking with the crowd in the east stand. All I would say is if the lad is struggling 50 thousand people booing or giving him grief during the game is not going to help.

We have played much better and lost so more than happy to take a scrappy win. -
Very strange player at times Whenever he gets space he slows it down rather than attack. I wonder if the hip injury is limiting his running ability or is it more mental and worried about a recurrence in a world cup year.

The signings we made in the first two seasons of Howe were always going to massively improve the team, simply from the base being so low. Any transfer we make now is to improve or consolidate our top 6 hopes. Once we do that it's harder again to get the players we need to challenge for the league. I know CD always brings up Aston Villa but I think that is a mix of Top 6 squad, a brilliant manager and other big clubs failing. I wish we could challenge for the title tomorrow or make expensive failures in the transfer market without a care in the world but that's not the cards we have been dealt with. It's more likely Villa, spurs and ourselves will be in and around the top 6 as and when each team puts in a strong season. The only difference is that when we fail we don't have the ability to spend 400 million in one window

I thought Rice was out for the season the way they were crying about him missing the game the other day?
-
Any other season Slot would have been sacked. Guess it's hard to say he was lucky to win the league in a poor year with little opposition when this year looks even weaker

Good point... You know gambling is an addiction, fingers crossed it's nothing like that

Do Italy normally have a winter break? Maybe there is some sense in what other leagues do. I know the argument was boxing day / New year's Day fixtures but look how sky have ruined that this year.

Once he gets his confidence in defence nailed, I would love to see him be more progressive going forward. Not fair to say he should be overlapping or crossing just yet but give him time -

Please let's not concede in the first five minutes of this half -
My own take on this is the Keegen effect. I think like Kev back in the day Stavely wanted to ride on the wave that was being created, whilst the club itself wanted a more slower approach. It's hard to have her front and centre approach when nothing is moving with the stadium, training ground or transfers to the degree we all wanted. Maybe it was mutual between the two groups in the end as she got to close to Eddie, the players and the crowd and was almost running it as a fan and not a business

Time to go back to basics and play to out strengths

Is it tactics or ability? Him and Murphy must be told to play like this for some reason
