I just remember that home game against Brighton in 2020 where he was shredded over and over. His positioning was shocking, and for a full back that is a fatal flaw. Perhaps if he’d had better coaching after he was signed he might have done ok.
-
Getting CL and the club World Cup have probably sorted them for another season Had they missed out on the CL it could have got interesting, but I think they’ll be fine this year at least
-
Nice chap, terrible signing, probably the worst fullback I’ve seen play, and there’s a lot of competition for that honour. His next contract elsewhere will be at best a tenth of that deal, total drain on the clubs resources for zero contribution. Just Hayden to go now from the bomb squad.
-
If Chelsea sign Gittens too that he got to be times up for Neto, Madueke or a few of their youngsters, The club should also look at what opportunities this transfer creates - is there someone who is now unsettled to go for
-
Not sure why the wages get mentioned as a reason for the lower fees. Not like Milan or Lyon said to City oh he’s asking for a big contract, so we’ll knock a few quid off the transfer fee for you.
-
Taking a risk in terms on injury recovery at CB is quite shrewd given Burn and Schar have came off good seasons, Botman should be ready and Lascelles available for emergency cover. If this guy comes in and has perfect fitness it’s a steal, and if he’s a crock, well another CB is already needed next summer anyway and that purchases becomes a starter. Unlike at ST, RW and arguably CM if this transfer bombs it can be managed Im in! Send the plane
-
If he’d joined Newcastle and then Madrid had came in the transfer probably would have happened, but he’d surely have accepted a higher and more limited clause from NUFC as he’d have been playing at a higher level. The offer is now CL football, even the most ambitious players will recognise this is a club you can do well at. And personally I’m fine with players bought for £25m having £100m Real Madrid clauses in their contracts
-
Shame about Frank, he could do well, one of the reasons I was pleased Spurs won the final was that Ange might stay and wreck another PL season. Feel cheated that he’s gone!
-
I find it very funny, him speaking Spanish is genuine lols But if a Newcastle player did it and joined say Liverpool or Man City, let’s be honest fans would be going absolutely bananas
-
Hall had to learn a new position. I hope Trafford isn’t being bought as the second striker…
-
Pope has 1 year left? If Trafford joins Pope will be sold, that’s what being good sellers means
-
Grealish, like Sancho, would be good at the right price, but due to their current salaries there’s zero chance they come for the right price. At £10m and 80k pw in wages it would be a good deal. But as they’re both on 300k pw they’d never go for it, their accountants would break their legs on the way to the medical.
-
I’d prefer this guy for his first name alone
-
Vlach is likely unsellable as he’ll have been paid over the odds to do the deal last year. And selling him for peanuts triggers a PSR loss on the books. Best can hope for there is a loan with a bit of fee income
-
It’s incredible really, there were suggestions that what won over Delap was the presentation on how he’d play and be used in the team - but I’d ask to see the old versions of the PowerPoint from each of the last few summers with all the previous players names in.
-
Gordon will have his best season yet next year. He’s had international duty past two summers, he will have a proper break now. By October people will be raving about him. CL will mean plenty of starts for him and Barnes
-
Tonali and Isak weren’t big risks, they were known quality. they also had the price tag to match. The club basically haven’t been willing to take a load of £20m punts a la Brighton. The strategy has been pay more for reduced risk. Elanga is low risk in a way some of the other players mentioned aren’t
-
I think they like a low risk signing, as thanks to PSR a £30m flop on a 5 year deal is a disaster, so better to take a banker at £40m, and generally speaking experience in the league is the best risk reduction you can get. Unlike Chelsea, Spurs, Man Utd etc can’t get away with wasting money every year. Elanga may not become a superstar but he probably won’t flop either.
-
If it emerged Osula is going out on loan, and a new striker is coming in then this makes a bit more sense
-
Er, I wouldn’t. What Tonali did and Paqueta is accused of are not on the same planet as Greenwood’s actions. Ludicrous putting his name next to theirs.
-
Aren’t they just revisiting the greatest hits from previous years as they have no real insight?
-
I think this is just as Trafford is the only player Sky know is a definite target.
-
He looks about 45 and that hair surely came via a trip to Turkey
-
I would take Sancho for a price and salary that represents his ability and the risk, but that is impossible. He’d have to accept an ~80% drop in salary and Man Utd would have to accept an under £10m fee. But he’d be absolutely mental to agree to leaving £13m a year odd in wages on the table, even if it would be a fantastic footballing decision for him as an individual.
-
For RW the issue is you can’t have all of low risk, low fee and high potential. PL players are much lower risk but that’s reflected in the fees. The Kinder slaphead is the lowest possible risk but that’s evident in the fee and salary. i think the head scratcher here is would you take higher risk given Murphy’s season and save funds for other positions, or is that falling into the Miggy trap from 2 years ago.
