"Oh I need to improve the performance of the players, I need to prevent injuries" Fuck off and tell us how you think the atmosphere at St James's Park is class after being asked whether you think the atmosphere at St James's Park is class.

New football regulator still on the cards...

I'm saying two things; 1. You can both love doing something and also expect to be renumerated for it 2. She could probably have made a much better ROI with her money/loan than buying part of a football club I think there were probably multiple driving factors. Money, yes. I think there is also a certain attachment to NUFC, whether that is the same as "falling in love" I don't know. It also looks good on her CV, being heavily involved in a multimillion pound deal with PIF. You seem to think it's just about money, that's it, no other factors at play which seems incredibly reductionist.
-
So it's either do it purely for love & for free, or do it 100% for money? Nothing more nuanced than that? Jesus Christ, not even 8.30am and I already feel like that's enough internet for today
-
Alternatively...they'll get away with it, there'll never be a public explanation why, teams well below them in the table who have spent a fraction of what they have will continue to receive points deductions.
-
As an owner/shareholder it potentially is. As @r0cafella says they can do this by having the company (the club) taking out loans but this doesn't make sense from a PSR perspective. The main way the owners seem to be putting cash into the club is via creation and buying of shares, the more shares the Reubens/PIF create and buy, her remaining shares become diluted. If she can't match their financial input it's perfectly reasonable for her to sell her remaining shares and move on.
-
Oh yeah. Utter shambles. Club is falling apart before our very eyes.
-
From a purely business perspective, they were minority shareholders who were initially needed to run the club. The club haven't spent potentially millions of pounds putting together an executive team to have Staveley and Mehrdad still running things. They cannot match the input financially of the Reubens or PIF so their value as investors is diminished. There is no need for them to hang around any longer and can take what I assume is a fairly substantial ROI off into the sunset. On a purely personal level I'd love them to stay involved but there is simply no business reason for it. There is nothing to worry about.

@JonBez comesock = the only true ITK

As I understand it, it's about how the owners put cash into the club's coffers. If your company wants to invest in something (eg a fancy new training ground...) and the company itself doesn't have the cash, the company can create shares then "sell" them to the owner/owners who do have the cash. The company now has a chunk of cash it can spend. The side effect of this however is that every time you make new shares, the value of any existing shares decreases. This means if you aren't the one buying more shares (in this case, AS) then your shares are going to decrease in percentage terms.

No way...

I'm not saying we should pay more than we could afford. I don't know what we can afford or what our budget is. And if we don't finish in the CL qualification places one of our top players will be off next summer regardless of how much we spend this summer. As per my original post, I was just trying to point out that the decision to pay £20m or so more for Bowen may end up being financially prudent, rather than the opposite, if it makes the difference between qualifying for the Champions League and not.
-
The major revenue stream will have to be regular Champions League football, at least until we get to Stadium sponsorship etc. Nothing else is going to add (minimum) £30m+ per year to our income. If we don't get Bowen, it'll be someone else so it may be £10m per year and £100k/week rather than £20m per year and £150k/week. That "saving" might end up costing us if the player is a bust and a younger player still carries the risk of depreciating in value, that's not exclusive to someone like Bowen.
-
Just because you haven't heard that things are happening, doesn't mean things aren't happening. Things are happening.
-
Just playing Devil's advocate on the arguments about Bowen and PSR etc There is a certain advantage in bringing in a player you are sure (or as sure as you can be) will hit the ground running and be productive in the PL. You could save £30m or so on a talent from overseas but if they take 6-12 months to settle (or don't settle at all) and you end up missing out on CL football then that £30m saved ends up being £30m (or more) lost in revenue.

NUFC kits & merchandise - 2025/26 home kit leaked pg. 825
Keegans Export replied to Ryan's topic in Football
It's the American term for away kit afaik -
I'm fairly sure something is going to leak out about a new training ground in the not-too-distant future. Does the Mitchell appointment not show that we conduct as much of our business as possible as quietly as possible? Isak signing was first reported when he was on the plane. Tonali hadn't been linked once, suddenly there's a £50m deal happening.
-
I've said this before but with every corporate hire we make (and I understand Mitchell is really just filling the Ashworth void) the more I think how the f**k were we even remotely functional as a business with Charnley doing the roles of Staveley, Jamie Reuben, Eales, Silverstone, the finance guy from Leicester, Ashworth/Mitchell?? I always thought he was a useless arse-licker, and maybe he was, but christ he was doing the jobs of about half a dozen executives...
-
You're not missing anything, it's just a general comment on various sports cases.
-
Makes sense now that we didn't just go straight for Spors once Freedman turned us down. Presume the local press were pushing for information, getting nothing from us, Spors' side just saying "We haven't been approached". Meanwhile we were obviously pushing hard for Mitchell.
-
Well that's a shock. Looks like an excellent appointment, certainly more recruitment-focussed than an administrator type. Plus it's more evidence that we can run a tight ship when we want to, I haven't heard his name mentioned for months.
-
I would speculate that it would be £100m plus whatever we get for any outgoings. So if we don't shift anyone of any significance it'll be the 23/24 squad plus starting RW and a new CB (plus Tonali I suppose). Wilson goes, we'll bring in a CF. Trippier goes we'll bring in a RB. Almiron I'm not sure seeing as we'll be looking at RW regardless. Maybe they'll just keep that aside either for January or if a long-term target suddenly becomes available.
-
Could just be me, but this seems really confused. You don't want the park to be decimated...but it's "like something out of Chernobyl"...the football club should have done up the playground...but nobody would ever use a brand new one on the current SJP site... Judging by your comment that it has been "basically abandoned by the Council", perhaps the "people who have anything to do with the park" would welcome constructive dialogue with the club?

Gonna be a great "Here's what you could have won" when we win the 2028 Champions League against Milan with Botman and this guy at CB.

Love Miggy. Hope he earns an absolute fortune and plays class.
