Everything about Jennings puts me in mind of Tim Lovejoy, which isn’t a good thing. Other than Taylor Parkes’ review of Lovejoy’s fucking awful book, which remains one of the greatest pieces of criticism ever committed to paper: https://www.wsc.co.uk/the-archive/no-love-no-joy/

Lewis Miley: signs six-year contract extension (Official)
TheBrownBottle replied to Ronson333's topic in Football
That’s very hard to say to fair, though the kid is very young and has looked good so far. -
We did, and the noon sponsorship and a few others came in for 22/23 - and finishing 4th would significantly increase the prize money. This season, there’s Sela + CL. Next season adidas joins plus no doubt more commercial growth - and who knows, we might be in Europe again.

Jamaal Lascelles (now playing for League One Leicester City)

I’d like to see him stay for at least another season, though I’d completely respect if he wanted regular football elsewhere. The lad has been an excellent servant to the club whatever happens -
Midfielder definitely is for me - I’m in a few minds about which position I’d strengthen after that. Obviously as you’ve pointed out, we have the centre forward issue (both players are first-class PL strikers, but both also appear to be made of cobwebs), but I also think we’re short at centre half and right wing. I’d be amazed if we don’t sign a right winger, centre half and a young / back up striker by the end of next summer, though.

You’re right of course re transfer fees, but 21/22 was the last year where we had all-Ashley commercials, and also we finished bottom half, so the TV & prize money was lower. Last year and this year will see considerable improvements in revenues, so once we’re into next year the final Ashley season drops off.

Yep, he’s a capable bottom half PL centre half - which is why he’s a great squad player for us at present. Excellent professional too. -

Made a serious error in the first min of the second half that probably should have seen Chelsea 2-1 up -

This is the last season where there will be serious FFP constraints you’d think. 21/22 drops off the FFP assessments next season - and that’s when we were operating the Ashley model and having to spend a huge sum in January to pull us out of the shit.
-
Likewise. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a couple of loanees come in - maybe one or both with a permanent move guaranteed in the summer.
-
That’s two of us then - he seems like a completely different character this season. Maturity kicked in.
-
Also, his twattishness seems to have taken a back seat. I realise that he’s one of ours so this could be a blind spot, but I don’t see us having to argue that ‘he might be a wanker, but he’s OUR wanker’. Haven’t seen much of that this season.
-
Didn’t Chelsea bid £60m in the summer before that too? I think it was around that figure. £40m really does look like incredible value at the moment, given his age, nationality, performances and potential.
-
I’m not at all sure re that. And if we did, we’re unlikely to spend it on a CB

We won’t have Botman-style money to splash in January.

It’ll upset some, but you’re right. Most of the big clubs sign on talented young players with idea of flipping them - only a handful actually get brought into the team -
Can you score a thunderbastard from six yards out?

Haha yep, it’s magic that thread - despite that fact that we’re coming into December and the only thing keeping the three promoted teams from being adrift is Everton’s points deduction, there’s loads of Mackems talking about how shit the PL is, and how there’s no gap between the top of the second division and bottom half of the PL. The facts are staring you in the face, you sad Mackem bastards …

Copyright was also the reason why the PL was initially called ‘The Premiership’

Yeah, sorry mate - Football League. Wasn’t taking the mick

I can see how my OP can look reactive, and it’s impossible to tell on the internet if someone’s overreacting in the moment or is trying to be provocative etc. But I agree - most players ultimately move on (and I don’t tend to get overly attached). Ultimately we will need to start bringing in healthy transfer fees to boost the budget - players like Joelinton and Almiron are effective net gains on FFP because of the length of time they’ve been here, and the fact that we’d get decent sized fees for them. All that matters to me is NUFC improving - players come and go.

The ‘Luton fan in peace’ thread is a classic of the RTG thread genre at the moment, as well https://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/prem-league-so-far.1619490/

Easy to misread tone, but I don’t want shot of him - I like Joelinton. Love hun in fact - we all remember what he was, and what he’s become. But if we’re wanting to step up another level, I could easily see him leaving in the next 18 months; he’ll fetch a fair old sum. I wasn’t saying we should sell him - just that I think that there’s a chance he’s one of those who goes before the next step up (as long as FFP exists, this also doesn’t help)
