Champions League 2023/2024: Group F (Newcastle, Milan, Dortmund, PSG)
Jonas replied to Marko NUFC's topic in Football
Cant lose whatever the draw. Going to enjoy even the customary usually torturous bureaucratic faffing around and compere bossiness Tough group - great, that means top teams/clubs Fancied group - great (plus that'll be a new player in Jan) Group of teams we've played before - great cos that's Inter, Barcelona, Feyenoord and Antwerp (for the romantics) Group of teams we haven't played before - great, new teams we haven't played before. Scottish teams - not as romantic (like Glasgow and have a soft spot for one of them) but very winnable -

We've gone a bit of topic but bet Bruce watched Tutti Frutti and Satellite Jukebox. Seems the sort. Channel five on a Saturday night too, if Birmingham had been at home that day. -
I do wonder had the modern fan/twitter/forums been around back then how much Keegan and Sir Bobby would have been questioned and slagged off after losing games and about what a terrible look that was, forgetting what they'd done, dismissing what they could do, in the heat of the moment of a bitter defeat. We'll end up having a good season and continuing to move forward and there will be more losses. Small price to pay and part of football.

That Satellite Jukebox thing? When I first retrospectively went through tapes there's a bit of that on the end of Match of the Day from Jan 92. 'Being Boring' by the Pet Shop Boys was first so thought it was just an innocent run-over after taping something like a test-card until a European music video with topless lasses on a beach was next. Funny that. My old mans work that one. -
Can forsee a pantomime villain type scenario with the ref. Some dodgy decisions, crowd get on him, followed by overcompensating act of not being flustered.

My first ever game was a 2-2 in the pissing rain at home to these. Just saying that in case that's what happens, not wishing for it, couldn't hack that sort of carry on now.

Ha. Sounds familiar. Got me intrigued about what else you have now (not the porn, I've heard there's other services for that nowadays). Derby and Millwall in the 92/93 season have been lost I believe. Highlights of Boro in the League Cup in 92/93 was on the ill fated Man U 5-0 tape and early 97/98 stuff (just Sheffield Wed for us) that cant get decent footage of. No word of a lie - I have a bit of that on my Newcastle v Bournemouth 91/92 tape mid-match I believe. Early days of having satellite and was 12 at the time so felt like it had to be procured. I guess that match tape was just handy. Forgot about it until a mate asked to lend the match and got a bit of a fright. -
I think the 90/91 season for us was probably the most pre-Ashley miserable one I experienced so that probably. Although for context they've probably had fifteen seasons like that in that time so it wont feel as bad for them.

Sorry about the late getting back. The thread disappears. That'd be great, or a DVD copy if you wanted - got about a thousand things, lots of Newcastle from back then (if you wanted to do an exchange) but not this - which as a Newcastle fan/dvd trader is absurd. Its mostly the official video version thats doing the rounds in the trading world. -
Was there the other day and for all its near us and I live between the two cities, my word its a shithole. Over the Alexandra bridge with a Now TV poster looking at me with Tonali 'undefiaced', digging up half of the main stretch/street, pigeon feathers a wet tab box and dumped mail in the entrance floor of the building i had an appointment in, little nooks and crannies of a city centre, girls effing and blinding on the tables outside that main bar on the corner in the middle of the day. Its not much of an extrapolation to imagine their tendency to just shit on the spot.

Such a rule deprived us of the wonderful anecdote of the mackems playing Bury (in a more than half empty Stadium of Light) whilst we were beating Barcelona. The day before doesn't have the same kick in the teeth bite to it. -
Played Manchester City five times that season. Please no.

There's more than one way to skin a cat. Going cut and thrust against these there is the quickest way to guarantee a loss. Its not what Palace do whenever they get something there.
-
Pack it in ffs.

For Pep this is 90%+ of what he's experienced as a player and manager. Makes you appreciate the ups and downs really and different sorts of games you get when you're a meer competitor. Why you lose interest when you've completed a game or a few seasons in on champ.

Shades of when Barnet first got into the league with the crazy scorelines - first two games 7-4 and 5-5

A fellow Mancini (or Sampdoria) man? Shame about Yozzer Souness ruining the ambience

Taped a few of them that year as it was all such a bonus and wasn't sure, after Dalglish and Gullit, they'd last...and sure enough. Sort you out with a copy someday. Sounds like the same one got you as me in the East Stand, otherwise I'd wonder if the old guy wasn't Auld Stevie
-
The one time I thought we'd absolutely lace them and was just a matter of by how much was that promotion season under KK and the weather conspired to make the game a farce really. Big games around the title/CL and big cup games more than take over the mantle and fulfil whatever needs are lost with the derbies and winning those sort of games could be said to have the byproduct of being a sort of victory over them.

Have you got that footage still? I still have it somewhere on tape if you don't, can't do anything with it at the moment, but have the full match on DVD on Spanish TV which uses the same camera footage so might be on that too. The sky perverts did it to me in a game against Leeds in 98, was just minding me own, camera shy and everything. Wouldn't be surprised if that tapes gone. Naff game anyway.

Sometimes I think the Ronnie Radford goal gets played too much Times like this not enough. I wouldn't want to play a non-league team away in the cup but I'd be delighted with Real Madrid.
