One thing I'll say which pains me but them players don't half play for the shirt, they got battered by Forest but didn't shy away and improved for their remaining games.

Getting into Europe this year was easy let's be honest..53 points, last year Palace finished 12th with 53 points. Also football is results driven, saying we could of finished 7th,8th or 9th..we didnt.
-
So basically allow what's happened to Spurs to us? This mentality needs to shift massively, we have just seen Sunderland qualify for the Europa League in 7th place yet fans seem happy to accept bottom half of the table. There's no excuses for us to have Europe really next season now, no busy fixture list, plenty time to prepare etc.

Was at the game yesterday so had time to reflect on this season. I love Eddie, he's my favourite Newcastle Manager but I massively worry he's lost the dressing room, and unfortunately once that happens its hard to get it back. I think you can see far less togetherness with the team this year, yesterday when we went a goal down the reaction was none existent. I also think if Howe is to stay he has to be ruthless, Murphy, Willock, Pope etc all need moving on. Yesterday there was absolutely no need to bring Murphy in. Botman shouldn't of been given a new contact but he was. The Europa League wasn't a tough ask, pains me to say it but Sunderland deserved to be there, but 54 points to get there shows how poor we have been. Since the international break we have been really poor, we beat a relegated side and beat Brighton who finished 9th.

I know people saying we were only 5 points off Europa Conference or we played 58 games etc, we finished below Brighton Bournemouth Fulham and Brentford and Sunderland who did the double over us, they also qualified for Europa League. We lost 17 games. Eddie is my favourite manager and an absolute class act but I think if we want success our mentality has to change with it.

Sunderland qualified for the Europa League with 54 points, a team who spent 10 years outside the premier League,55 points would of finished 12th last season. I don't get your point.
-
Just left the game and massive disagree, we were 14th in the league when we played Barcelona, what was actually in our hands? we weren't in form. 58 games isn't and can't be used as excuse, that's what happens when you qualify for Europe. We got beat twice by our rivals who went on to qualify for Europa League after 10 years away from the league, that's just the reality.

Absolutely love Pep, came over to the away end in league cup semi final and clapped away end for a good minute and got a good reception from us. Always spoke highly of the club and when we beat them at home earlier this season he came out and praised us, they should of had a pen if memory serves me right but he focused on our performance.

Bournemouth are so good in the counter, Areola has done a fantastic job, surely someone other than Palace looks at him.
-
Absolutely a DM will help I just think we need to upgrade in that department.
-
We need to improve that area, we simply can't keep clean sheets.
-
Spurs if it means we win tomorrow, a resurgent Spurs wouldn't of been a worry if we didn't have a bad season and recruited poorly.
-
Exactly how I feel, also hope for Tripps sake we win. If we finish with 8 or 11 points out of the last 4 games least it will show something.
-
They finished 6th, just behind us so they certainly didn't struggle.
-
I think this is a really important for Howe and the players, after the season we have had, in the grand scheme of things yes it doesn't make much difference to our season ending the season with a win here and at Fulham but it would show some improvement in the last 4 games. Defeat here and next week does raise more questions heading into the summer with 1 win since the International break as it's relagation form.
-
Think that's harsh, presumably you referencing he didn't play in the final but he was stand out performer in them semi legs v Arsenal.
-
Said it at the weekend but heading into the season with expectations of happily finishing 8th isn't good enough. In the last few years there's been clubs with far less investment achieved better than that. We can't use the summer recruitment as an excuse either, we wanted Elanga and Wissa.
-
What's interesting is arguably the 2 best away ends this season, Man city in cup and Chelsea both dropped to really low points and both allowed for a lot more you get fans to attend. Maybe we should go down the city route and do a ballot for younger fans so a generation isn't locked out.
-
Can't remember what away end it was but I remember we sang the gouffran song for an age. West Brom away we literally sang Peter Lovenkrands for 90 mins, that was a class away end that. I remember Stoke away we got battered 4-1 and 2nd half we just blasted out we still follow united...
-
Ipswich last season was example we do have a canny songbook just don't sing them. That game we sang about ex players lovenkrands, solano, Gutierrez, Rob lee/Andy Cole/David Kelly alongside a wide variety of other Newcastle songs . In terms of songbooks you look at Liverpool and Jamie Webster played bog part in getting new songs on the terraces.
-
Good point TBF, if we don't win our 2 games it would be 1 win in the 8 fixtures post international break...
-
Who's started to sing stuff like that...never understood singing about home support when every ground has a poor atmosphere. All songs you can sing about Newcastle to get behind the lads why do people sing stuff like that.
-
The fact we have spent 250m to finish below Sunderland after a 10 year stint away from the league is too embarrassing to accept, I honestly think about 7 teams are much of a muchness in terms of threat to us, having spurs amongst them doesn't make a big difference to me.
-
Our supporters mentality is as bad as the players when it comes to Sunderland. Still can't get my head round some fans would be happy for us to finish below Sunderland to see Spurs go down. Let's be honest every owner would try block other clubs from being successful, football is a business to them. Nothing against West Ham but I hope we win comfortably and try to finish the season with some momentum.
-
Nah Sunderland get a least a point maybe 2 in their final games Meaning we might have to win both so Sunday we need to win, I can't understand how any Newcastle fan would rather Spurs go down and finish below Sunderland.
