Out of interest who doesn’t he trust?
-
Presumably boiler plate and hastily glossed over in discussions but to be honest you wouldn't been thinking anything close to relegation signing for them or other top end Premier League teams
-
Honestly mate - I'm really not disagreeing I just don't think it's as easy as some posters on here make out, especially as we can use hindsight and like tv pundits our opinions are never truly tested. You seem to watch a lot more football across Europe than I do these days and often champion players I am unaware which is helpful in the main to people like and to repeat again I'm rubbishing your view, just disagreeing with how you occasionally present... As I've admitted in other threads, I was really pleased when we signed Wissa so my opinion is certainly not bullet proof! To move it forward - who do you fancy to sign in the summer to score goals? Lots of gaps in the team granted but as proven with he who should not be named a quality striker hides a lot of problems
-
Like I said, not disagreeing, just pointing out it's not as cut and dried as you make out and the improvement in the player may not have been as dramatic in a more pressurized environment and playing less games. I know the price was a big factor but people weren't overly keen on signing Larsen in the summer based on ability as well. "They are not turning down a move to Newcastle because they won't be starting every game" they may do if the aim is to get into the premier league and move upwards... that appears to the sales pitch the Brentford et al seem to be using, albeit very effectively
-
In essence there's not a lot to argue with but it is not always as cut and dried as made out via hindsight, as Spurs found out for years it is tough to sign a decent striker when you're current striker is one of the best around. Would they have been keen to come to effectively sit on the bench, maybe, maybe not and as another poster mentioned would they have improved in the same way playing less than they have for the other teams? I do take your point that they could have been flipped potentially and we aren't great at that but we still have a lot of posters lamenting the Minteh deal. Also the club did try this approach with Osula with not that much success, is he as good as the players mention possibly not but he was the young backup striker they chose. In many ways I'm not disagreeing but like a lot of posters you seem to suggest it is very easy to get this right but keep adding a dose of hindsight in there, I'm simply trying to play devils advocate.

Yep, interesting that every team that played in the CL midweek have lost in the league with truly awful performances this weekend.
-
Honestly no probs - it was a shit way to start a reply so apologies back at you and TCD. I certainly wasn't trying to say "so you'd rather be Brentford or Bournemouth than us?" and agree we need to get better at a lot of the things you mention but there is something about those clubs that trigger me but that's my issue and when for another day! Bournemouth certainly seem to be on a hot streak scouting wise at the minute and every player you mention would improve our squad but do they get these players signed due to commitment to move them in a year or so? Noone can really answer but if that is the case, I'm not sure I want that for us... again you could argue hitting higher highs with us could persuade them to stay longer so who knows... I will be honest and admit I should be nowhere near the DoF role... obviously lost my eye for a player as I was far more excited signing Wissa and Elanga despite the over inflated fees than I was Ramsey and after last summer its not or should not be up for debate that a change in plan is needed.
-
Like I say I broadly agree but still stick by the bit where they don't further extend because it's bloody difficult to do so... Totally agree that it needs to be part of a much bigger strategy \ overhaul of the culture within the club!
-
All good mate... I was in a workshop at work and feeling facetious

Second poster today to call me stupid so I guess I must be... A few lengthy posts which simply state must be smarter, can't and won't argue with that. If you'll indulge I would ask a couple more questions, how long have Brighton and Brentford been Premier League clubs? Is there a point where being a premier league club is not over achieving for them? Given the sums Brighton spent a couple of summers ago have they really over achieved since the latest manager took charge? Finally you say we will adjust as we grow - perfect, we need to, is it is easy, doubt it. Why haven't the clubs adjusted as they've grown? could it be to do with the difficulty of spotting players who will take you from 10th to 4th, 8th to 2nd or is it lack of ambition? Risk is often talked about on transfers and I agree we should widen the net and have had success doing so but when the goal is top 6 the risk is infinitely bigger than that of a club that merely wants to stay in the league. Broadly I agree with the moneyball principle but I do have blind spot where Brighton et al are constantly bigged up both her and in the media. Ramblings of an idiot no doubt

Polite questions, When do stop being a selling club in this model? How do you close any gap on the non selling clubs by selling them our best assets? How do we eventually become a club that attracts the bigger / better players when we never win anything of significance? You dismissed the League Cup win… Would we really be favourites to sign players over the clubs mentioned? They are happy to make up the numbers in the league and advertised themselves to players as an entry point into the league. Will we do that? Do you want us to do that? Personally I don’t have the answers but do get frustrated at the mentions of Brighton / Brentford etc being Stella clubs when our fan base and lots on here would go mental at their finish positions in a normal year. I wish I knew what would enable us to jump from 7th / 8th to fighting for the league but it feels to me following Brighton is not that. I’m often wrong though! Case in point I was excited we signed Wissa 🤦♂️

Disagree, seems old fashioned to me. Also where is the accountability on DoF performance? Both roles need to be managed, not every relationship has to be linear.
-
What accountability would you put in place for the DoF in that system? Coach / Manager should not report into DoF they are very different jobs but should be on a par in the hierarchy. Yes DoF will work for potential long term strategy but should not in my view be the boss. Not saying that you are advocating that. Saying coach should be plug and play seems demeans the role somewhat again in my opinion.
-
I suspect I agree with you, but in my opinion he is not incredibly good!
-
Yep, if he trips him it’s arguably a yellow but lazily grabbing the arm allows the ref to send him off. Awful defending
-
‘Obviously’ it’s not obvious to me… If 5 is enough who would play tomorrow?
-
I never argued re price, in fact even agreed that price was a blocker. I simply disagree with your assertion that 5 first team midfielders is enough. Too mix with the best you need quality replacing quality and midfield is arguably the most important part of the team. I read a lot of criticism on this forum of Eddie Howe not rotating enough, that cannot and will not happen until we have squad strong enough to do so. I’d also like to think we a building a squad with the aim of regularly competing in Europe and not solely for next season
-
With 5 subs and attacking the cups there’s plenty of games, we play with three midfielders so six is the optimum. Joelinton will always miss games, Ramsey too and Bruno has picked up the worst injury of his Newcastle career. Won’t argue about price being a potential blocker but not squad numbers or I’d hope to never read posts criticising Eddie for lack of rotation.
-
I read it that as well... especially as they are next door to the away supporters so numbers may flux depending on their sales?
-
I've had \ still have doubts about him but credit where it's due quality goal and as a few have said the initial run forcing Tripps to play it and then knowing what he wanted to do, to the execution was great... He certainly made me jump out of my seat last night!
-
The Roeder shuffle was legendary when I was growing up... he would step out of defense the whole ground and both teams new what was coming but it worked every fucking time! It was one of the first skill you learned back then and provided you did it quick it was almost impossible to defend especially in the middle when you go either way... Ah man loved it
-
Darren Bent regularly champions Hall for England, he has said numerous times it should be O'Reilly and Hall in the world cup squad but you're right he's missed off the list by a lot of the others
-
It would have helped his stats and maybe \ hopefully given him a lift but his second half performance in that game was awful... I know there are caveats regarding opposition, being through etc. but a couple of times in the second half he was dispossessed so easily by a rubbish centre half and his first touch in and around the box was poor. First time I've really been frustrated \ disappointed with him and there are caveats as I've said and as mentioned his confidence looks shot as well but he still has to do better. They all do! But he is the big signing, German International etc. so the pressure is more on him, rightly or wrongly.
-
It’s always happened and always will especially if the player is young / inexperienced for the age group he’s playing in. Gary Neville arguably the Premier League’s most successful fullback was a central midfielder in youth football.
-
Do know anything about the lad but why the facepalm emoji? Is he playing above himself at that level, do we have injuries at fullback etc.?
