Without bothering to work it out, I would guess that 75% of our transfers have Premier League experience. I can’t think of any other team in the last 3 years that have had that much of a focus buying from these shores, with the premium that goes with it, as we are seeing with Guehi now.

He was good enough to start for Chelsea last season when fit and they finished above us, they only lost once when he started after returning from injury. What we should be aiming for is at least 2 players in each position who are good enough to start for us if needed, so we can buy another RCB next summer presuming Schar isn’t going to carry on forever.

I would be fully on board with signing Chalobah, not because I think he is as good as Guehi because he isn’t but he is a decent player capable at playing at the top end of the Premier League. That doesn’t mean we can’t sign Guehi at a later date to be first choice because we can, but as it stands we have 3 right centre backs that have played any sort of regular football for us in Schar, Lascelles and Krafth and all 3 are out of contract next summer, so we are going to need that depth.

He is going to have to have an amazing season to retain that value, even if he does sign a new contract.

I would be looking at those a level below Bruno and Gordon, players that we wouldn’t want to lose this summer ideally for one reason or another like Joelinton, Willock or Barnes. Saying that if Gordon doesn’t sign a new contract then we won’t have much choice other than to move him on.
