I think the thing with Man U is that Fergie was a once in a generation manager, and the fans got used to having everything their way, winning all the time and attracting the best talent. Fergie time and all that. He left a hole that couldn’t be filled. In my opinion they’ll never have a period of success like that again, there are more big teams than ever, and so the fans need to temper expectations and realise the team’s natural position is anywhere from 4th to 9th. Whether Brexit Jim is aware of that is still unknown, but if Man U don’t finish in the top 4 for the next 5 years, I wouldn’t be all that surprised.

Colleague of mine is a UEFA B License coach and mentioned the lack of English managers available when the England job came up. He basically puts it down to firstly the cost. To get all your licenses up to UEFA Pro, it's the best part of £20,000. Then you throw in the reluctance to hire managers who haven't played the game professionally and this is the result. We really need to start investing in coaches in this country, the whole hiring ex-professional players thing is clearly not working.
