The smile on Viduka's face in his post match interview says it all. He looks delighted.

I'll be delighted if i am that fat and slow and can still score with the least amount of effort.

Lighten the fuck up for christ sake, soccer master

7th most productive player in the league when on loan at Villa and I imagine he was far from the least last year even with f*** all to aim at.

No end product though

When he was at Villa & you say 7th most productive :yikes:

Are you going off assists?

It went off assists, completed crosses and passes into dangerous area's (like through balls but were not converted).

Link?

Where did he finish in last years rankings league wise & at the club.  I just know we have not looked like scoring at home in long time & we are lacking creativity. Milner has played a lot more times  than any of our other so called creative players & he took a lot of our free kicks & corners last season with little effect, so naturally he should get some criticism .  He (and others) need to start scoring & creating as we cant keep playing him if he is not, we need to look at other options.

Bit harsh to expect him to create when their is no-one to finish.

He finished 15th in the assist chart last season (same amount of assists as Gerrard) last year. Don't know the whole productive thing because I can't remember where I got that from now.

The players who finished ahead of him were:

Drogba, Ronaldo, Gerrard, Terry, Boa Morte and Rooney can't remember what order though. Not a bad bunch of players considering thats when Boa Morte was at his peak.

Oba, Dyer (ha ha) & Sibs.

You see I am not 100% convinced on the assists thing cos Ramage would of got one for Zogs goal today, yet for me Zog did the work to create & score the goal.

Thats why the other thing was better (well a bit).

It is a bit of a myth that Milner has no end product though. He can be erratic but then so are all wingers and the lad is only 21 so its not as if he is the finished article. He is never going to have blistering pace but he does have a good cross on him, an excellent shot on him when he gets into the right positions and although some people use it as a negative he works his arse off and isnt afraid to put his foot in which is quite rare for a winger.

I am not claiming he is a fantastic player who would walk into any team in the league but he is better than a lot of people give him credit for and good enough for us where we are now. If we do sign someone better it will be harsh on the lad but if it improves the team then thats what matters. I still think he could do a job in a more central role, for instance I think he would add more in a midfield role than Smith will for us.

A very disappointing result and performance, barring the fact that we scored 2 great individual goals and didn't lose.

They had more possession than we did, and we gave the ball away alarmingly - Geremi seems to be having a problem with being captain - his slack use of the ball was uncharacteristic, and Zoggy desperately needs to be further upfield and is NOT a fullback.

Would definitely prefer to have Anelka up front than Martins - he is a far more intelligent player and his control is streets ahead ; at 22, Martins should have the basic skills NOW..

VERY slack defending for both goals against - Taylor was caught out by Mido, who is far from the quickest forward around and the midfield were to blame for giving Arca so much time to shoot for the second - there was no-one challenging him at all.

However - was impressed by Capaca in the short time he was on - looked quick, strong & confident, but hope he wasn't badly injured - it didn't look good...

Smith had his most anonymous game yet, but still worked hard.

Overall, we have to be disappointed by the result AND the performance - they had quite a lot of injuries so we should have been able to win, even in a hard-fought 'local' game.

The most damning thing about the performance to me was that Portsmouth looked a far better side against Chelsea - they caused Chelsea more trouble than Liverpool did the previous week and were very unlucky to lose ...

We desperately need a midfield player with vision , and to avoid giving the ball away so much - the fullback positions are now critical in view of the injuries we seeem to have picked up, so if anyone is signed this week, I expect it to be defenders , unfortunately.

As I said - at least we didn't lose, but there remains a massive job still to be done. In my opinion, it will be next season before we see any major improvement and as long as we continue to strengthen in Jan, the fans will just have to be patient. Not easy or pleasant, but there it is.

Lovely Louise Taylor's headline from her match report for The Guardian:

"Arca gives Boro spark to silence bigoted Geordie fans"

Football's simultaneous ability to enthral and appal was encapsulated on an afternoon when Julio Arca's bewitching passing could not quite erase the depression imposed by the moronic behaviour of some Newcastle fans. Listening to them persistently subject Mido, Middlesbrough's new Egyptian striker, to vile and ignorant Islamophobic abuse detracted from a compelling game that was dominated by Gareth Southgate's gloriously creative side.

Few managers would even contemplate fielding two South American playmakers in central midfield against a team coached by Sam Allardyce but Southgate dared to be different yesterday. His bold decision to pair Arca and Fabio Rochemback, men known for the quality of their touch rather than enforcement credentials, saw Boro largely out-pass and out-class Newcastle in a game they really should have won.

Was our fans chanting that thing to Mido? If so,thats disgraceful.Anyway back to the match, disappointed that we didnt get the win after leading twice. The good thing about it is that Viduka scores his first goal for us,just like Ive told you he would, hopefully there will be more to come from him.It was good to see Mikey there too with his newcastle kit,I thought he was just another newcastle fan who was lucky enough to sit in the directors box but it turn out Im wrong.

The Mido gags wre nothing more than good crack. Anyone spouting otherwise should go and take a subscription out to the Daily Mail.

:knuppel2:

If they were calling him a 'terrorist' it was woeful crack if you ask me. Not that arsed about it, it's just not funny. He seemed canny arsed about it btw. Glad he got so fired up like. That helped us ;)

Sunshine, you're a good poster but dont take yoursef so seriousy.

I take it back then, those chants were hilarious

Tabloid papers accusing people of racisim, wonder what fuels peoples ignorance in the first place.  ???

Spot on - it's a bit rich coming from them isn't it? Still, I suppose that "hypocrisy" is a word that's always been missing from the tabloid dictionary.

Rappers?

:giggle: Most of them don't help, admittedly, but I think they specialise in sexism and homophobia, albeit with a bit of reverse racism thrown in for good measure. All of these ideas, of course, are formulated down at "da club", which (apart from its big brotha - "da hood") seems to be the only social institution in the rappers' world.

P.S. Apologies to Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five (at least on the basis of what little I know of them), and to other rap outfits with more intellectual and political substance than what's become the norm in that particular musical genre. Apologies also to Vanilla Ice, and the like, whose music was so vacuous that it could not possibly be accused of containing enough content to be offensive (although, come to think of it, in the light of recent drug trends in the US, the memorable lyric "ice, ice baby" might have contained a hidden mesage designed to bring down The System).

P.P.S. Before anyone tells me to fuck off, get back to the topic of football, and write to The Guardian with any left liberal concerns that I might have about the state of rap music, I think I might, err, fuck off
