Guest firetotheworks
I'll make my decision on him once the He's Not Pardew Honeymoon Period wears off. I've never liked him as a manager, I'll keep an open mind, the jury's still out for me and probably will be for a while.
Elliottman
We've had a really tough start, let's get city and Chelsea games out the way and take it from there.
Stifler
He promised attacking football and I have rarely seen a team sit as deep at home. The news is that West Ham beat Arsenal comfortably by attacking them and then Liverpool by attacking them. McLaren is as s*** scared as Pardew was to attack teams ... even before the sending off we had set the pattern... if this continues we will lose an awful lot of games by defending a 0-0 'lead' Not a wind up this we have the personnel to attack teams but not it seems the managerial instruction. 4 games in and absolute s*** as usual from a gutless manager in charge of a half decent squad. Very very disappointed ... promised the earth and is delivering dross... passing team?... f**k off everybody has out-possessed us so far Southampton Swansea ManU Arsenal dreadful approach unconvincing appointment... already thinking of how it may have been under Laudrup for instance Put down the fosters, that 4.1% is no good for you. Nah man, that looks like Special brew talk.
The College Dropout
Only the Thauvin situation was a clear cut chance. And that was last minute when the other team was pouring forward to score. Mitro and Perez are half chances man. It would take something from the top drawer for us to score from those situations. Half chance. We've created very little since Southampton. That's a problem IMO.
David Icke - Son of God
How can we not look like scoring when Mitrovic hit the bar And thauvin was a toe away from scoring. Amazing how stupid some people are. Or that shot Ayoze had that just went wide versus Man Utd. Apart from all of those chances we haven't looked like scoring though. The fact he's managed to get a back four that was a complete fucking shambles for at least 18 months, probably more, well drilled enough in a few months to go to OT and play 70 minutes against Arsenal with ten men and only concede one heavily deflected goal is a minor fucking miracle. We're not the finished article by any means but there are genuine signs if progress.
The College Dropout
Also we've caught Arsenal and Man Utd at decent times. And not really looked like winning or scoring against either.
Dokko
Statistically its been a poor start for him but it really is a case of the statistics are lying. Not only about the football and the organisation, but the attitude and the professionalism off the park, its all adding up. I really do think his bad experiences have played a part in what we are seeing already, and im sure with the right support from the board he can make us respectable again. SJP is a totally different place right now, i feel it calling me back.

The College Dropout
You would have those as clear cut chances? Seriously? If that's the case Man Utd had 15 in that game alone.
Kanj
Nobody is f***ing denying or mentioning the other teams chances man. You're over exaggeratedly stupid claim is another outlandishly poor comment. You're wrong. We created chances in that game.
Guest Howaythetoon
All I know is that this set-up, this side, looks a million miles away from the Pardew and the Carver shit, results notwithstanding.
Altamullan
You know what, there's some good context in the last posts. Played against two of best teams. Ten men against one. Conceded 1 goal... 'Twas nice to hear a SMc song today too; like a sign of acceptance.

That's a problem IMO. Think you need to look at the bigger picture here. It's quite obvious McLaren is building from the back. Make us harder to beat by being organised so everyone knows their jobs defensively. Once that sinks in throughout the squad, then we can work on pushing forward more. I would have my concerns if after 15 games we hadn't scored many though. It was never going to happen overnight.

There was much more of an atmosphere, almost like it used to be, so much positivity despite everything else going on.
The College Dropout
My long term concern with SMC was four, defensive football. Nothing to make me change my mind thus far.

Figures 1-0 Football
I'm really starting to warm to McClaren. He's been unlucky in the fact that we've played four games, two of them with 10 men. All four games have been against decent teams too. Next two games are massive, both winnable and will give a much better indication of how we are. AyeDubbleYoo
Yep, 6 points from the next two would do very nicely.
Gallowgate Toon
Didn't we dominate possession against Southampton, for large periods? We looked very comfortable until fitness went. Even so, it's a ludicrous post, it doesn't take much to figure out what we're trying to do - they've explained their plan.

Boro aside, which McClaren teams have been dour and defensive? Edit: club teams.
Dr Venkman
I was impressed with him today, when he went to the dugout he was very active in his encouragement, motivation and management of the players. Lots of 'get out', 'keep it', 'get closer', 'pass pas pass' comments and at the end, acknowledging the crowd, he made all the players and staff clap all four stands. I thought he got his subs spot on as well, in terms of timing and the players he brought on. Tactically we look far superior to Pardew's Newcastle and I thought we played some decent football at times, especially from the back. I like seeing our keeper pass it out rather than boot it out and I like seeing our team, despite being down to 10 men, not crumble, look solid and have good spells of movement and threat. We badly need a decent left-back though and it has to be one of either Anita or Colback, not both as they are both very similar and got in the way of one another at times. We started the game badly though, too many long balls early on and too much ball watching. We also need to strengthen. We need a LB and another striker, preferably one with mobility and pace to get in behind. Mitrovic looks clumsy and one paced. The red was harsh, as it was a clumsy tackle and not an intentional reckless one. That said, his studs connected so it was one of those that could easily be given and that's exactly what happened. He needs to calm down like. Back to the match, Pardew would have subbed of Thauvin after we went down to 10 and that's what I thought McClaren would have done, but he seems to trust his players a lot more. He's no striker, but keeping him on in that kind of role shows confidence in his player from the manager, trusting he can still do a job. Good stuff and there were lots of promising signs. However its a results business and we need to start winning. We cannot be down there come January fighting a relegation battle. Nice to read, mate. Especially given what you've been saying about him over the last few weeks. Did you change your mind after you watch the team play?
