Really good to hear him say that we've got good footballers and should've been better on the ball, rather than just saying it was a good defensive performance and result. I imagine that's what he means when he says we've got things to work on and will get better, the attacking stuff will come later on.

Pardew would've been piping himself off going on about how it was amazing that he'd led little ol' Noocarssle to a draw etc.

Tbh he's right, as well as we did there was times when we gave the ball away far too easily.

Of course he is, I was just delighted to hear him say it. He knows we're a big club and had laid out expectations for the players. It shows he's got a good mentality that he's not just satisfied with that, plenty of other top level managers would be.

Where can i listen to him praising Perez? What did he say?

Gonna assume he's talking about the quotes that just went up on the official site, obviously need to be a NUFC TV subscriber to watch it which i'm not.

Never mentioned him in the NufcTv interview.

It was a pretty short interview.

  • Pleased with the team but felt we should have done better in he ball.
  • Mitrovic gave us a presence even though he gave it away too many times. His header was a turning point/gave us belief.
  • Thinks we'll have ups and downs in the first 10 games (A bit negative, but kept emphasizing the ability to use the ball better which was good).
  • Also in the Mitrovic interview he said the fans were behind us all game and pleased they had a song about him already.
  • He was tired but wants to keep starting and hopes to score his first goal in the next few games, wants more crosses.
  • He thinks he stayed calm all game and needs to do that

It was either his Radio Newcastle or general BBC interview. Just said he had great technical ability (followed by that's why he believed we should've been better on the ball, because we've got players of such quality) and that he was productive with it too.

hurray

By his first two games standards he was quite calm tbf  Was actually perfect tbh, he maintained his aggression without going complete over the edge even if he got frustrated by some of the calls on occasion although that's understandable and he'll learn.

The big difference for me now is that my interest has been rekindled. I'll never be convinced by Ashley and I'm still very sceptical but I'm intrigued to see how the new signings develop, how are style of play develops and to see signs of quality coaching for the first time in years. Under Pardew and then Carver I'd completely lost interest to the point where I didn't even bother watching games on TV and almost enjoyed seeing Pardew suffer with losses.

It's very early days but atleast there are signs of some green shoots...

All in all I've been impressed by him so far. There's definitely an intent to play good football there, and more importantly he seems to have some sort of idea about how he wants to go about installing it.

Biggest gripe so far has to be him actually rating Obertan and starting him ahead of Perez, a decision that seemed ludicrous and yesterday's game confirmed to be so. If we see Obertan start again I'll be surprised and very disappointed in McClaren. Obertan is shite and forever will be, no excuse to keep playing him.

The next big issue is going to be Colback and Anita in CM. I'm worried that he'll persist with it for far longer than he should. He seems to see Anita as a key cog in the system he wants, which is fine with me. He also seems to think Colback has a large role to play though, which I can't understand. Think most of us want Wij playing deeper and Perez\De Jong starting as the #10, but personally don't think he's going to do it and it'll become the first long term gripe we have with him
