Ben Tozer signs on 4.5 year contract

Recommended Posts

a 4 and a half year contract for someone who's only played 7 games?

strange.

Not really.  You're not going to sign a promising youngster for just a couple of years.  1 because they're not even going to get a chance in that time, and they could just be snapped up by someone bigger.

how are we so sure he's worth a big contract after only 7 games?

we don't, but he is paid but a fraction of what players a few years older are.

promising news imo - we need a few more zoggy's etc....

I doubt the size of the contract is going to break the bank, with him being a 17 year old defender, its going to take a lot of training to get him near the 1st team, were showing him he's for the long term, there's nothing unusual about the length of such a contract for someone so young, in fact its a good thing.

i agree that we should be tying these young promising players down for the long term, but he's only had 7 games. how much can we know about him as a player now and his potential?

Works for other clubs, namely Manu & Arsenal, they see a youngster and they nail him down for 5 years and start working on them with hope to being them through at the end of their teens.

How much do you think the lad is getting paid, considering he's only a year from his YTS contract? I cannot see it being more a year than Owen gets in a week. So a 5 years deal is the same if not considerably less than Owen earns in a month to 6 weeks.

Glad the deal is finally done.I dont know much about this Tozer guy but Im sure he doesnt like to be toss around and I think 4.5 year contract is not that bad as it seems. He will probably be loan out to some championship club before he will be given a start to play for us.

SSN

Ben Tozer has signed for Newcastle United on a four and a half year deal.... the only clip they could find was him hacking someone down in the area and getting sent off

Brilliant

i like the way you think they've 'found' it as opposed to 'scoured' for it...

new transfer policy - throw (relatively) small amounts of money at 17 years olds showing promise....

probability suggests that in 3-4 years time we'll end up with some decent players

surely better than blowing 17m on a cripple in one shot?  if we'd have spent that 17m on, say, 30 17 year olds we'd just be about to see a crop of 20 year old genii take the world by storm

ah, sweet hindsight, what a cruel mistress you are

My uncle (Swindon season ticket holder) actually went out of his way to phone me and berate me following the signing, which is a rarity considering we probably only ever talk on Christmas day for about 30 seconds. He said every time he has seen Tozer play he has stood out head and shoulders above everyone on the pitch, reckons he’s the best young player he’s ever seen at the club and we’ve got an absolute bargain. Potential new owners wouldn’t have sold him but as the deal was already done they couldn’t stop it.

Something vaguely positive at least.

You forgot to mention the wages saving.  Give those kids £3k a week contracts, and you are still paying less than Owen's wages.

we're onto something here man...factor in owens wages and we could probably add another, say, 5 17 year olds (being conservative)

3-4 years of agony while we spend no money (so no big change in circumstances then) and bang....the world is ours!

so you think a 17 year old signs on a 25.000£ contract? owens wadges could probably support 80, 17 year olds :)
