He is now what Nolan will be in another year. Though not as overweight. Keep hearing this great influence crap but it's what you do on the park that counts. Ashley got it right. Get rid of both. Problem is Smith is even worse than Nolan and consequently nonbody is interested.

Nolan in 4 years will still know where the goal is. Smith hasn't known that since 4 years now.

Im struggling to think of 3 good games he's had for us in the Premiership. He wasnt even good in the Championship.

Arsenal home 2007, Villa home 2010- that's about it?

Last season, against Sunderland away - till he got injured - didn't he do quite well there, too?

Went off after about half an hour like.

Ok. Wrong memories then.

Not comparing them. Not too similar at all. Just that both are not the standard that we need and as I said Smith is a year or so ahead of Nolan in the crap stakes.

Aye, he'll know where it is, but it's finding it that will count.

Thanks. Just an opinion not a conclusion. Back in the Championship he'll no doubt get a few though.

It's not like.  Doubt he'll be able to get into the box from the center circle in a single sprint.  Nolan's going to make Harper look like an olympic sprinter in another two years.  He'll be marginally less mobile than a metropolitan police station.  Pre-match mascots will get caught in his gravity and fall into orbit around him, sparking multiple lawsuits.  etc.

Comparisons between Smith and Nolan are absolutely ridiculous tbh.

Not really. They are/were both expensive Allardyce buys and neither are fit enough to attract top flight interest.

One plundered 18 goals in the Championship and won the Player of the Season award - the other posted half a dozen 6/10 displays at the start of the season and then was replaced in the team by a(nother) podgy Scouse man.

One secured a fee of £4m when sold - the other we're struggling to shift for free to fucking Leeds and there's talk of us still paying a percentage of his wages just to get shot of the useless shithouse.

One got into double figures in the Premier League last season, the other barely managed double figures in terms of appearances.

One of them when missing saw us fail to win a Premier League game in about 8 attempts, the other...

Do you not see? You can cherry-pick a few similarities such as both are slow etc but Nolan's clearly the superior player.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3712007/Alan-Smith-has-been-offered-a-chance-with-Orlando-City.html

ALAN SMITH has been given the chance to revive his flagging career with a switch to Orlando City.

The Newcastle ace, 30, spoke about the move with Lions chief Adrian Heath in the build-up to Toon's 1-0 defeat by the Americans on Saturday.

Smith has one year left on his whopping £60,000-per-week deal at St James' Park.

The midfielder - who has not scored since his £6million move four years ago - has property in Florida.

Orlando currently play in the second tier of football in the States but have plans to become an MLS franchise.

Heath told SunSport: "At the moment he wants to sit out the last year of his contract so I may have to wait."
