Dave
http://www.ipswich.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=267675 The Blues bid to sign Newcastle midfielder Alan Smith appears to have taken a step nearer after he was spotted at Town's training ground. Ipswich insiders insist Smith, whose contract is terminated by mutual agreement today, is wanted by Paul Jewell who invited the former England player to have a look around the Blues facilities. Vital Ipswich revealed last month that Town were after the 31-year-old although Leeds United have been strongly linked with Smith but it looks increasingly possible that Smith will now link up with his old teammate Lee Bowyer at Portman Road. Really? Ah well, this is possibly really happening, good stuff. It has really stuck in the throat that this bloke has been picking up £60k a week while we've been so frugal in recent times, will be great to get him off the wage bill. wormy
I can't wait to read the local paper wanking themselves silly at the experienced ace adding steel to the midfield, just like they did with Bowyer.

Dave
The Mail are going with a slightly less fwap-worthy: Ipswich are hoping to persuade Newcastle midfielder Alan Smith to join them. The 31-year-old is expected to be released by Newcastle although manager Alan Pardew may hold onto him until the end of the window as he has a threadbare squad and is struggling to bring in reinforcements within his budget.
