I'm sure there are some other Croatian players worth a punt. Any shouts?

Vukojevic very good defensive midfielder

Yeah he got a mention in the Daily Mail today. Linked with Celtic and Arsenal.

i cannot remember his name but there's a young player that plays for Schalke that is supposed to be really promising from what i've heard from some people back home, i think he's a midfielder. He chose to play for Croatia instead of Switzerland (sp?) after Bilic  gave him a call. I think he played for basel before he moved to Schalke...

Rat summit or other.

Chelsea fans opinion

To be honest I'm not sure who actually signs the players at Chelsea. Is it Avram, Roman, Arnesen, Kenyon... who really knows? Whoever it is, they need to get their rump in gear, because it looks like Newcastle are very close to signing long time Chelsea target wee Luka Modric.

Many see Modric as the only possible replacement for Lampard, who with every passing day, looks more and more likely to leave The Bridge in the summer. If Lampard does go and Modric doesn't come in, you'd have to worry about the creativity of the 2008/2009 Chelsea midfield. There's already about 1058 defensive midfielders on the Blues books, and if the rumours are to be believed Gareth Barry is set to become the 1059th. Modric would surely be a better option.

However it's all looking too late. Dinamo Zagreb vice-chairman Zdravko Mamic jetted into Tyneside's Jimmy Nail International on Tuesday and met Toon officials in a hotel (I'm guessing a Travelodge) to discuss a £12million move. And who's been key to securing this deal? A certain Chelsea legend named Dennis Wise. Reports in the papers this morning are suggest Modric has even hosted a farewell dinner party with Dinamo pals to toast the transfer. Disaster...

Crying out loud. This might actually be happening. ???

Exactly my feelings :frantic:

This story's got me buzzing tbh. At least if he doesn't join we know that the intent is there to sign Europe's finest. Big step in the right direction.

My worry is that this is going to be like Voronin's move (no not a failure). Everything could be signed and sealed but nobody really says anything until mid june or july.

I don't mind that happening if we actually get him but it will leave everyone on a knife edge, which will be frustrating as fuck.

Hmm, I can see Keegan driving from Newcastle to London tomorow, with Modric on the roof of his car in a toon top.

The point was if this lot get no confirmation, it will turn into a circus round here.

Have you ever been on here in transfer season?

Give me optimism over pessimism every time. I haven't got my hopes up over this, but will obviously be very intrigued if it comes off. I've seen Modric play about 3 times, though, so the only thing that will excite me is his reputation, the price and the fact that we're looking at his apparent calibre of player this summer.

Wonder where he would play should he sign. Where Barton does now?

That's where I think he'll play, I can't see him moving Owen unless he goes to him and says he doesn't want to play there but judging from comments from him he seems happy with his new role in the team.

One thing Modric will give our midfield is better ball retention compared to the other lot, when Keegan spoke about Owen playing deeper he mentioned how he hardly gave the ball away so I think it's something he's looking for in his midfield, I can see Keegan going for another midfielder even if he does get Modric to play on the other side and if it's a player of similar quality then the quality of our football can only improve.

Fair play to the club if they pull it off.

I know, but my point is Keegan will be thrilled and can't wait to piss of Chelsea so we'll bring it out tomorow.

Aye would be very interesting to see how much more KK wants to improve the midfield. I'd be tempted to look for a DM to replace Butt, however there's a big chance he will revert Barton to DM (after his comment) and sign another AM.

I get the feeling he would rather sign more attacking players than defensive ones............ which won't upset me.
