James
To be honest, our board had been led down the Redknapp road by outside influences. Now they should have a chance to sit down and have a look to see what really good managers are out there. Chances are that the second choice may be the better choice because the sole influence is the manager's CV.

papo
and they don't get bored ;D Defoe To Be Redknapp's First Newcastle Signing? If you believe The Sun, not only is Harry Redknapp's appointment as Newcastle manager a done deal, but he's already lined up Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe as his first signing. Pascal Chimbonda and Sol Campbell could follow. Defoe To Be Redknapp's First Newcastle Signing? zoom - galleria Reports in Saturday's Sun indicate that Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is as good as confirmed as the next manager of Newcastle. So much so that he's already lining up new signings for the St. James' Park outfit, starting with Tottenham outcast Jermain Defoe. The striker was told by Juande Ramos in the week that he is free to leave White Hart Lane, with Newcastle believing that an £8m bid would bring Defoe to Tyneside. Redknapp knows Defoe having managed West Ham United as the player came through the Hammers ranks, and is said to be keen on a reunion, especially since Michael Owen's injury woes show no signs of subsiding and Obademi Martins is on international duty. More To Follow? The Sun says Defoe might not be Redknapp's only raid on White Hart Lane, however, as he has also set his sights on defender Pascal Chimbonda. Meanwhile, ex-Tottenham defender and current Portsmouth star Sol Campbell may follow his current boss to the north east. Official Approach An official approach by Newcastle for Redknapp is understood to have been rejected, but the Pompey boss may resign instead in order to be able to take charge in time for Wednesday's FA Cup rematch against Stoke City. But Portsmouth have vowed to fight tooth and nail to keep Redknapp at the club. “Harry will be in charge of the team on Sunday," said coach Joe Jordan. "He is up there at the moment but I expect him to still be here because he has not said anything about leaving. It does not come as a surprise that Newcastle are interested. It is a big job — but so is Portsmouth.” Chief executive Peter Storrie added: “Harry is our manager. Harry is the manager we see going forward. But if he suddenly comes to us and says ‘I really, really want to leave Portsmouth’ that is a different scenario.” Goal.com UK ;D ;D ;D ;D
