Also interested in signing Ronaldo I've heard.

Fred once said that the Newcastle job was one of the top 12 jobs in world football. We ended up with Souness.

Even now - that decision angers me, and typified Shepherds lack of nous.

What's Deschamps upto these days?

After the resignation of former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho on the 20th of September 2007, Deschamps emerged as one of the frontrunners to take the job.[6]

He has also declared that he would relish the chance to coach in England. Newcastle United FC is a possible destination after the departure of Sam Allardyce.

He wouldn't require compensation as he's currently without a club. Houllier's record is pretty impressive in my opinion:

    * 1985-86 French League Championship

l

    * 2000-01 League Cup

    * 2000-01 FA Cup

    * 2000-01 UEFA Cup

    * 2002-03 League Cup

    * 2001-02 UEFA Super Cup

    * 2001-02 FA Charity/Community Shield

    * 2005-06 French League Championship

    * 2006-07 French League Championship

Houllier's an excellent candidate, without a doubt.

I dont remember his teams playing nice football. Isn't playing nice football at SJP part of the job now, going off Ashleys interview.

I seem to remember Houlliers Liverpool team playing like robots.

Just as long as he doesn't bring Phil Thompson as his no. 2! I remember when Liverpool finished 2nd not so long ago and he was flavour of the month. He'd be a step up on the likes of Hughes.

I'd have any of the three, but we're going to end up with either Mark Hughes or Big Al

Mark Hughes has done a fantastic job turning Blackburn around from the mess Souness left them in. He'd do well here as well but he'd be off to Man U as soon as Ferguson retires.

Out of the above options Hitzfeld is too negative and Houllier wasted too much money on shockingly bad players while at Liverpool. I'd love to see van Gaal here but would he leave AZ mid season?

Deschamps or Bilic  :smitten:

We need someone who is hungry and ambitious.

Deschamps is available at the moment and has been talking about wanting to manage in the premier league.

Not sure how attacking his teams were though.

Read the last sentence of the 'AZ' section.

Ooo. Gosh, that's promising. :rolleyes:

Blimey - yeah.

Its says "appointed on Jan 11th 2008 manager of Newcastle United in England" !!!!

Did they forget to announce it ? :cheesy:

hahahaaha I'd love to see Georgie Thompson break the news.

"Skysports News understands that Louis van Gaal  has been appointed manager of Newcastle United.  Online encyclopedia, "Wikipedia" states that......."
